Question Air pump inline valve question

I FINALLY got my new 97 Z today from Arizona. The car is disgustingly dirty on the outside from its trip, but nothing a good wash/wax won't fix The sound of that exhaust made it all worth it....

Anyways, I have the car in at the dealer to do a recall on the air pump. They have it apart and are telling me it needs a valve thats inline with the air pump. The recall is free, I think they're going to charge me to put in this valve, and am not sure if they'll charge me the extra difference or the time to do it from scratch. I have no problem spinning a wrench and prefer to work on my car so I know it's done right. Does anyone know how hard/deep in this valve is? I can't get the part for a few days b/c its an American only thing?!? I was thinking of just having them put it back together and get my car home and out of the hands of some pedal happy mechanic at $85 an hour. If anyone knows or has had this done, let me know.

Thanks for help

Cool ZR

Just trash the pump and plug everything up. Problem solved! I have never taken an airpump apart so I'm not much help.

I agree with shoebox, and they do go bad [it's a one way check valve, if you take it off you can blow thru it to test]
When they are bad, they tend to allow hot exhaust gasses into the AIR pump[not good]
So don't wait too long, especially if they put on a new AIR pump...

The dealer called me this morning and apparently there was a bypass in the kit with the new pump so I didn't need the valve anyways. The finished that and emission tested and it passed without breaking a sweat, nice low readings! The one thing that didn't impress me was they didn't take the time to clean the car for me, and the mechanic was rubbing on the fender

The car looks so sweet now that its all white again and shiny!

Thanks for the pic shoebox.
