Air pump help!

Hey, I recently picked up a 95 z28 with 93,000 miles on it. It runs great with the exception of the ses light which is being set of by the air pump. I checked the fuse and yea it was blown. I replaced it and it worked for about 10 minutes but it blew again. To my understanding there was a recall on these things but I dont think a dealership will fix it since its over 11 years old. Would my best bet be to get a tune and get rid of the a.i.r and egr? Thanks for your help.

Re: Air pump help!

All depends on the smog inspection rules in your area. If smog isn't a problem, you can disconnect the connector to the smog pump, replace the fuse and the SES light will go out. The EGR doesn't hurt performance so no reason to delete it.

Re: Air pump help!

You'll find the Air pump on the lower driver side on the front of the motor.
There will be 2 tubes coming from it, one runs up to the air intake, the other you can trace to the exhaust manifolds. There will be a wiring harness and a plug connector on it very close to the blower motor and the wires run to the back of the blower motor. Just disconnect that plug, you'll want to wrap the plug with electrical tape because it will have voltage on one of the pins when the air pump is supposed to be on. I wrapped mine in ele tape and then put a zip tie around it to make sure the tape would not come off from the under hood heat.

If its a recall, they have to fix it. They dont have a choice. Only if its a TSB can they say no if its out of warranty.

Re: Air pump help!

Well i went out and unpluged it and the car ran like a turd. The idle went to hell. I shut the car off and plugged it back in along with my new fuse, took it for a quick spin and no light. The light normally came on before I got out of my driveway but I went like 2 miles and no light. I can't figure it out maybe someone else has the answer.

Re: Air pump help!

Sounds like you unplugged something else. Unplugging the air pump would not effect anything. I completely removed my air pump on my 95 recently and just capped off the tubes and it didn't effect anything. Sure you didn't unplug the MAF?
The air pump is just to the driver side and up just abit from the optispark where all the plug wires plug into, and just below the coil, which sits about under the MAF sensor in the intake tract. The air pump ins mounted in the accessory bracket on the very front on the engine block, have to get under the car to unplug the connector.
