Hello all, I have a 95z and took the fuse out for the air pump. The down fall for this is the check engine light comes on. The question is, does the PCM go into closed-loop or open-loop when the check engine light comes on?

 

Not for the AIR pump...no. Do a search and you should be able to fined the value of a resistor you can plug into the harness to get rid of the light.

 

Thanks, The main reason I ask was do to my gas mileage. on average I get about 175-200 miles to a tank and most of it is highway. I have replaced all of my sensors except for my 02s.

 

if you have bad mileage i would look at the O2's. If your air pump is shot put the fuse back in and unplug the air pump. You won't get the SES that way.

 

Thanks Z95M6, The air pump is good, The reason for taking the fuse out was so the fans would come on and stay on. Havent had time to do the fan mod yet. With the 160 t stat my temp never exceeds 190 with the fans on.

 

If you pull the fuse, the computer detects that the smog pump is not working, turns on the SES light, and goes into "limp home" mode. The fans are on full time, and the computer defaults to conservative settings for timing, fuel, etc., so you will likely be down on power.
