Air bag and HVAC Removal

I recently removed my passenger and driver's side airbag. I went to try and start my car up yesterday and it would not crank. I had my battery charged so I assume that it is good. I am going to have it tested just in case. Is there anything that I should not have removed when I got rid of both airbags? There was a box (will yellow connectors) by the passenger air bag that I removed. Do I need this? Do I need to pull the fuses for both of the airbags? ANy advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Is this a 94? Are you sure you did not remove the VATS module, too? It would have been attached to the HVAC housing.

My car is a 93. I think I removed the VATS module. Do you have any pictures of this module? I think I am screwed because I threw it out.

Yeah, you are screwed unless you have someone program the VATS out of your chip. The book says it is to the right of the radio on the air bag bracket.

GM PART # 16215659 . It's not cheap.

You could get a used one, but you will have to determine what the key pellet resistance it has programmed into it and have your key matched to it.

I was fartin around on LS1tech for something else and stumbled across this statement:

To eliminate VATS from the starter system, you go to the starter relay and permanently ground the wire (yellow/black) that gets grounded by the BCM. The key will still operate as usual, just no VATS interface anymore.
This was for a guy with an LS1 removing the engine and swapping in a SBC without the factory pcm. I don't know if it'll work for you, but it's worth a shot. BTW this is a quote from Speartech (www.speartech.com)

That might let you crank the car, but if you are still using the computer, the VATS must send a signal to the computer to allow the injectors to fire.

I was hoping you were not going to say that, because it's going to **** me off.

Ok, well, if people don't want to provide pertinent info related to their questions, I'm going to stop trying to help. I mean, what's the darn point of spending my (or anyone's) time trying to come up with a good solution if all the facts are not presented? It just becomes an exercise in futility and a waste of everyone's time.

Rob: Do you have a pic of the VATs box? I saw a pic of the VATs connector on your site, but didn't see the VATs itself.

btw...Some of us would really hate to see you stop posting, Rob. The knowledge curve of this board would drop substantially if you didn't post.
