It can be caused by incompatible gears, offsets in the block, shift in the cam casting or gear etc. It's not rare, but it's not common.

And yeah, we have a track in a parking lot. Not the best by any measure, but better than no track. It can just be very tricky to hook up there.

I made a "copy" of the More Performance "Pressure Saver"...

Bought a new GM pump drive and stuck it back on w/ the metal cap.

My gear wasn't stripped though, just the plastic cracked up top.
