Aftermarket TB and lumpy cam at idle

So I have this new motor and the previous owner says his tuner put this brass piece in the TB that goes to the intake to help out the idle. Well the tuner put to piece of a brass in and the TB didn't line up with the intake and stripped the bolts in the intake. I already fixed the threads, but now I need to fix the issue with the over sizes brass piece. Does anyone make a piece like this that WILL work with the 58mm TB? I'm not 100% sure the brand of TB. Or what other avenues do I have?

Not sure where this brass thingy goes. You guys in Canada still have your blacksmiths tune your cars? =)

Hahaha. It's just a brass fitting that goes into the back side of the TB and fits into the hole in the intake for the IAC.

Post up a picture of your throttle.body. I will see if I have any of the links saved on my phone that show some of these mods. The throttle body dumps the iac air into behind the blades rather than forcing it to go into the iac passages of the intake. What you are doing it attempting to seal it up or direct it into the iac passages. A through hole is also done sometimes( to mimic stock tb) I did both on my tb. The one part I used a .300 weatherby mag casing cut down to fit the hole and direct the air but I have a n2o plate and it didnt line up perfect so I inserted a 30-06 casing in the .300 to neck it down a little and sealed it with a dab of silicone. After you do the "mod" its best to have the blades closed all the way on the tb. Then you begin to moniter the iac counts and thats why I added the through hole. My blades are closed all the way and my iac counts are 30. You can find pictures and write-ups on the mods but doubt any pre fabbed pieces are out there. The rifle casing were just in my shop so its what I used but others were using 1/2 od pipe. Some machined a filler to plug the slot that dumped the air behind the tb blades.

lol I know the feeling. I spent hours figuring out how to post on of my datalogs and once I. finally got it posted the log was formatted in some format I wasn't able to get help. What may help is posting to photobucket or something like that then putting a link. Could also try posting to your profile pictures or garage and we could look from that.

Mobile Photobucket

Try that out! Took three pics. Just the TB, one with the brass piece ontop and then one with it Inside

Your gasket hides some of what I was looking for but im sure its the same as other brands ive seen as well as mine. Under the gasket in the area around were the brass piece is pushed in you should see like a grooved out area. If you think about it what you are doing is trying to route the air that is coming in from the iac passages of the tb and you are trying to direct that air to go into the iac port of the intake manifold so it can feed individual cyllinders rather than it dump it behing the throttle blades and mostly get hogged out by front cyllinders. My opinion your brass piece may not be doing the job. I say that because the ribs look like they may have an air gap issue. I also dont think it needs to protrude into the manifold that far and assume thats what caused the stripping of your holes. The truth is that "grooved or notched out area is what your trying to seal. Like I said I have seen inserts made to fill that gap and I did similar to the links I posted above. I had a smooth tight fitting pipe(I did put a little silicone on it to lock it in place and seal any air gaps) and then I filled around that notched area with silicone to gasket(causing all the air to go into intake iac port. I will also say the pipe can extend too far in the tb also so its helpful to inspect from other access points( I believe I had the iac motor housing off).

I'm thinking about getting some soft copper 1/2" and puttin it in there. Is silicone ok to tie it down? Or should I in weld it? I just DON'T want it poppin out and going into the engine. I was thinking about even milling a piece of aluminum and tig welding it in.

Re: Aftermarket TB and lumpy cam at idle

On all aftermarket throttle bodies the iac passage isn't closed off and doesn't have a hole. This along with a lumpy cam makes it hard to for the car to idle nicely causing split blm's. To correct this issue you need to block off the the passage in aftermarket throttle bodies and start with a tiny hole and slowly work your way up untill your blm's are close giving the car a smoother idle. The throttle body is a professional products.
