Aftermarket Dipstick Solution?

Happily after my Hooker LT header install my dipstick would not correctly fit into the block. It is currently in the block but not as far and tight as I would prefer. I am not sure what kind of danger that presents but I do want to know if anyone has an aftermarket solution to this? I have seen a flexible style one, Lokar. Any information would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

Check out Summit and lookup part number #LOK-TD34L60EFM and #LOK-ED-5001 to get some ideas. These pictures are pretty good.
Heres the links:

Re: Aftermarket Dipstick Solution?

just bend the tube till it fits. you can do this by hand or get a small pipe bender.

Re: Aftermarket Dipstick Solution?

After having to pull a header and use a pipe tap to remove the soft aluminum tube(From the Lokar) that broke off in my engine, I would not recomend it to anyone. Also it is just a THIN teflon tube with a stainless cover over it. Get the MILODON tube for the same exact money. It looks great and is heavy stainless top to bottom.

Re: Aftermarket Dipstick Solution?

Thanks alot man, I was actually scanning through my recent summit catalog looking for the Lokar model and all I found was the Mildon. It costs $10 more, but I think I will pick one up tomorrow while I am out and about and let everyone know how it works. I had found a few threads about the lack of craftsmanship on the Lokar models, but more threads are supporting it than not. Perhaps I can get Summit to bring me out both models before I purchase one and I can compare both.

Keep in mind there is one downside to either of these dipsticks. Their metal handles get pretty warm when the engine is hot.
Also sometines it takes a few tries for me to get the Lokar dipstick all the way down into the tube, like the end is snagging on something inside the tube, maybe the joint between the hose and the block fitting.

Re: Aftermarket Dipstick Solution?

Thats fine, I just want a safe and smart alternative to having the dipstick tube hanging half way outta the block. These flex tubes are the next best thing to just capping it close, but that isnt a wise choice at all, since I have my genuine Chevy 350/LT1 oil leak. I have been told by many you dont have a healthy running 350 Chevy unless it has an oil leak somewhere. I just think of it as a underbody preservative system

So it comes down to Lokar or Mildon.

I spin the dipstick as I slide it down and it just barely catches.

Re: Aftermarket Dipstick Solution?

Well I was a Jim Pace Pontiac today and found that they stock the Lokar models. Thinking I could save a trip to Summit I asked if they had any experience with the Lokar's in LT1's. A few of the "elders" gathered around, inspected the dipstick, and come to the conclusion that the reason they have heard to much trouble on these sticks were because they were used with blocks that didnt have an extending protective tube intergrated with the block. So when the Lokar's are installed they protrude past the Lokar tube and get caught on the internal engine components, when the block doesnt have an additional tube for the end. They basically said steer clear of it and try the Mildon one. They supposedly have heard many horror stories about them breaking off. So I guess I'll wiat till I get to Summit, or maybe call Lokar and Mildon and get their inputs. Thanks guys.

Re: Aftermarket Dipstick Solution?

I've got 4 bolt mains and an aftermarket bottom end. No problems here.
