Going back to the egr, now you said you tested it, but I'm thinking that possibly it could be getting stuck open. The egr is pretty easy to take off, I would just see if there's any build up on it and clean it, it's worth a try. But in all honesty, I'm going to lean towards the opti. Even though it's new, you could've got a bad piece. I would try taking it off and if it's still under warrenty trade it for another and give ie a try. If everything else is chenking out fine then that's going to be my bet.

Man i have similar issue as you do. I have checked every sensor every wire everything except internals.
My next thing to check is rocker arm adjustment and the timing chain slop. I also have a 94 and if i remeber correctly that 94's have a differnt chain setup than the others. Ive read of a few others with the 94 and same issue. Not one other year.
My main problem is very slight hesitation at full throttle less than 2k rpm and occasional intake backfire when the throttle goes from 0 to floor at low rpms. Other than that the car screams.

in other words my throttle response is HORRIBLE and sometimes makes an intake backfire

little update. decided to "piddle" with the car today and to my suprise found a plug wire hanging and not on the plug; dont know if it happened between now and the last time i worked on it or what. so i replaced that plug and reattached the wire and seems to run the same. does feel smoother around 2500rpms and higher but still bogs and spits/sputters at the lower rpms...im gonna try to get the car scanned/logged to see whats going on...

i havent read through all the other posts but if it gets worst as it gets warmer than i would check your iat(intake air temp sensor on the intake elbow) and ect(engine coolant temp sensor on water pump) voltage.

when warm your ect should be around 1 volt or so, theirs a chart somewhere that says what it should be at certain temps.

if you had access to a 5 gas analyzer (unlikely but "IF") hook it up and see whats really comin out your pipes. if your ect or iat where bad you'll get excessive HC in the 1500 ppm range fouling your plugs and causing a miss and other conditions that would cause your concerns.
