after head/cam , car still isn't fast ???

here's the deal, my car ran 13.60 with mods in sig right now, just got my car back together sunday night, been driving it all week, i decide to run it tonight, i ran my friends 02 ss who runs a consistant 13.4, we went from maybe 70-120 and we ******* tie !!!

i ran 13.6 , THEN installed
ported/polished heads/ 2.00 /1.56 intake/exhaust valves
226/234 joe overton cam
comp r lifters
hardened pushrods/valve springs/
comp 1.6 rockers
lt4 timing set
lt4 knock module
piston rings
30# fuel injectors
spec stage 3 clutch
and a mail order tune by madz28
thats all i can think of right now, i'm pretty pissed,
oh ya, the car runs fine, its not sluggish, runs good, doesn't sputter/burn oil or anyting, runs perfect, i was under the
impression it would be a pretty solid mid-low 12 sec. car.
so 13.6 before all that stuff, and then after i tie a 13.4 car ???? whats the deal?
any suggestions?

U should have beat him good.

I had a A4, cc304, ported lt1 heads with stock valves and stock rockers, with stock tune, and I beat a near stock '02 SS, 6speed from 65 to 130mph, but it was close. Raced 2x, two of us in my car, only driver in his.

You have a bigger cam, better heads, better tune, and a 6speed compared to my a4. At 13.4 in the 1/4, the SS seems stockish.

I have no idea what went wrong, but i agree that you should have smoked him.

valves adjusted too tight, hanging them open?
been reading discrepencies with the (875) R series lifters, that they can be very finicky to adjust correctly

dont know if you've read thru this thread or not...

My experience with the Comp R lifters is they like a 1/8 turn past zero lash. They are extremely tight lifters. If you turn them to 1/4 turn they will most likely be keeping the valves open. Also, make sure you adjust them with the engine running and adjust them slowly to prevent them from bleeding down.

Valve adjustment is always a possiblity when dealing with R lifters. They DEFINITELY require ALOT less pre load than other lifters. I have heard peopkle run them at zero lash and as tight as 1/16 to 1/8 of a turn past but ANYTHING past that and you are asking for problems.

Maybe some data logs of your car with A/F ratio, timing, KR, etc, would help mad Wolf get the tune closer. These set ups usually like more timing than usual.

38-41 below 3000 RPM
36 from 3000 to 5600
35 5800
34 6000
33 6200 RPM and up

If you are getting KR (false or real) it will never run right. If false than zero it out. If there is not enough timing, it will never run right. If the A/F ratio is not right, it will never run right.

Check these things.

ha...same problem here man.....

Awsome LT1 heads/big *** custom cam from FMS .57x/.59x lift, all the bolt ons, electric water pump etc.

I can bearly beat(pull him 1 car or so) my buddies LS1 Lid/Exhaust/TB (342hp/355tq).
His car is a lot lighter then mine so that might be part of the problem. His is 3535lbs with him in it vs my 3800lbs..(me and my gf) I also have a 12 bolt and a Steel Street Twin. BUT STILL...
I should be around 420+ hp..but i am afraid its more like 370

No offense, but you didn't really expect to throw all those parts on your car at once and have it running to its potential within a week did you? Your car should run pretty damn strong....get some data logged and see what it's doing.

I dont know how you guys are barely pulling LS1s with all those mods. With the mods in my sig below and on stock heads I can pull about 1.5 cars from 50-100 on my buddies 98 SS Camaro and he has lid, jethot long tubes, and 3'' catback.
