Is and adjustable Fuel pressure regualtor needed with Walbo 255 pump??

I finally got rid of my check engine and installed my walbro FP and no the car seems to have to much fuel and the car stumbles because of it and also at a light the car is really wanting to advance on its own so I gotta hold the brake down pretty hard,

So do I need to cut down some Fuel Pressure?? will this help me solve this problem??

Thanks!

I don't believe you "need" an adjustable fpr. I just installed a Walbro 255 high pressure pump in my 95z and it runs fine. The stock fpr should be able to handle it.

how do I test my stock regulator?? because I am sure that the pump is pumping more that it can handle and not to mention thta she is taking gas like crazy!!!

when I changed the pump I also changed the filter and had the injectors cleand at a garge. so Im pretty sure that the fuel system is in good shape.

With a fuel pressure gauge. It screws on to the schraeder valve on the fuel rail under the cowl. Fuel pressure should be 41-47 lbs with the key on/engine off. Once you start the engine it should drop by 5-10lbs. If the pressure is much higher or lower than those ranges you probably have a bad FPR. I replaced my fuel pump with the Walbro 255 and installed a new stock FPR at the same time, I was having issues with both so I just did them both at the same time to be sure and pressure is fine now. You can pick up a decent pressure gauge for under $20. You might want to pick up a Haynes or Chilton manual too if you dont already have one, the procedure is listed in there. If I remember correctly what I listed is the general procedure though.

When I put an aftermarket pump on my Camaro, it did raise the pressure up a lot with the stock regulator. I had to use an adjustable one to crank it back down. So I wouldn't be too surprised if you have to.

I don't remember any issues like that. I was seeing black smoke out the tailpipe, and on the scanner the O2 sensors were registering very rich. Once I tested the pressure, I knew it was high....

If a new fuel pump causes the car to run rich and the regulator is working retune the car for the new pressure, on an OBD1 car the tuning will cost less than an adjustable regulator not to mention is the RIGHT way to do it. AFPR do have their place but if you have to ask if it is right for your car then it is not, they are all too commonly used as a half@ssed bandaid for those that refuse to mod properly like not reprogrammng the pcm.

You lost me here. How is adjusting the fuel pressure back to stock with an AFPR any more half-assed than programming the PCM?
