Lightbulb adding mods...

First of all i would like to say hello to every one..just bought a '97 camaro z28 2 weeks ago with only 12k on it......after owning my 1st camaro(84 with a 305 in it) it is about time i got another one. I am thinking of adding a k&n filter and catback exhaust to it.. the exhaust now is dual with 1" X 6" tail ends on it now(stock i think?) I got a couple of newbie questions...

1) just adding a k&n filter..will it help it if any?
2) changing exhaust to catback better than factory? how much more hp if any?
3) changing both will help the best...how much hp increase?

Any input would be appreciated...

Re: adding mods...

Congrats on the car

Don't just do a replacement K&N filter. You'll want to get an actual intake system (like the K&N FIPK, Moroso CAI, SLP Cold Air, etc).

From the intake, you can expect about 7 to 10 horsepower.

From a nice catback, you can expect 10 to 15 ish horsepower

From the two of them combined, maybe 15 to 18 hp.

Congrats. on your purchase. And only 12k on the odometer Thats a good find. Those tips are the stockers and are otherwise dubbed as "mailslot" tips due to their unique shape. Feel free to use the search tab on the upper part of the screen, this can yield alot of information about exhaust and intake choices.

Re: adding mods...

yes, if you look under your car, the exhaust comes off both sides of the motor into a y shaped pipe and runs into a single pipe to the muffler in the back, then one pipe comes out each side of the muffler to make it look like dual exhaust when looking at the back of the car
