ACDelco water pump from Focuz Tech

http://www.focuztech.com/xcart/produ...ater-pump.html

Anyone ever bought one of these from here? The water pump on my Z-28 is on its death bed. It's still flowing, but barely, and it's making a god-awful racket, so it's time to replace it. (It isn't even 20,000 miles old. )

Anyway, just wondering if anyone has experience with one from these guys and how it went.

The price is so low, it makes me wonder if it is a new GM pump. If you buy one, make sure it is for an f-body. The one in the pic is for a b-body.

That's what I wonder as well. I mean, it says new in the description, but who really knows? I'll be calling the local dealership and seeing what they want for one. My stepdad has an account there, so we get a discount, but I don't know what that'll do for me on a water pump.

Good eye! Too bad that part number doesn't cross reference anywhere online. Google just brings me right back to Focuz Tech. What are the physical differences between the B-body water pump and F-body water pump? It's been a while since I had mine out, so I don't remember.

Man, even with our account, the price is 300 dollars. Yikes! I think I'll explore other options. I might give Focuz Tech a call and see if their part is brand new, and make sure it's for an F-body.

I bought a reman for $50.00 IIRC, took it apart to powder coat, put it back together and it works fine. Just get a reman.

You can get them at most part stores like autozone, advance, o'reily etc. If you are looking for a new one summit is a little cheaper. http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...115+4294822066
Could also be a good time to go with a electric pump and reuse your stock housing.

Looks like the electric pumps are just about as much, and some more, expensive than the mechanical pump. I'm not building a racecar, so the mechanical pump is fine with me. I suppose the difference between the GMPP water pump and the GMB pump is the iron housing versus the aluminum one. I wonder how good that GMB is as far as quality goes. This OEM unit currently on the car obviously isn't that great since it only lasted me about 20,000 miles.

AC Delco actually sells two different part numbers for the water pumps. 88926215 and 12527741. The first part is the cheaper one and is sold only by Delco dealers, not the dealerships. I have used the cheaper one twice now and have had no problems. It appears that is the part Focuz Tech is selling.

Perhaps it is a rebuilt (not new) version? It also may not come with a water neck and thermostat like the OEM part does (from pics I have seen).

The heater fitting are different on the b-body and it does not have the oil cooler fitting.

Focuztech is great to deal with, ask Mike about the f-body pump, bet he can help.

Not having those parts wouldn't bother me. I have a brand new thermostat (tried that first before the water pump) and my water neck is fine.

I'll give them a call tomorrow at work. Thanks for the help, guys!

Doing some shopping around, I've found a few options. I'm waiting to hear back from Mike regarding the warranty on the parts he sells, so in the meantime, I looked at the national parts chains' offerings. All of them are in the 140 dollar range, and all have a limited lifetime warranty. It's basically a choice of which brand to go with.

ASC brand from Advance Auto - $147.99

This one doesn't say whether it's new or remanufactured.

Duralast brand from AutoZone - $143.99

This one says it is new.

Master Parts Division from O'Reilly - $147.99

This one also says it is new.

Bosch brand from Pep Boys - $143.99

Which one would you guys choose? None of these places are really too far out of my way. O'Reilly and Pep Boys are both on the way home from work, and Advance and AutoZone are both pretty close to my house.

No intent to hijack!!!!

I am changing mine prophylactically while I replace the headers. I am changing my opti as well, even though it is working fine. I was going to use the autozone water pump.

Please reply is you find any reason not to use a non-AC waterpump. I think it will help both of us.

Jim
