Acceleration Woes

Im having slight acceleration problems with my 94 Z. When I mash the throttle from a stop it dont pick up like it should until it gets in the mid-rpm range. Sometimes it even throws and intake backfire.
I staged with a GTI Volkswagen the other night and when we took off he took me in first (also considering he inched up & dropped the clutch before the light turned green) But when I banged second he was toast.
I cant seem to break the tires loose off the line, I dont even think it can spin em real good on a turn anymore either. I run nothing less than 93 and just about always put in a bottle of octane booster or a quart or so of eth/meth. I can lay 3-4 ft patches when it hits second, but forget doin that off the line. Is this normal or is it time to dish out some more cash? Thanks ahead of time!

Sounds transmission related but I dont have an automatic and don't know much about them. Maybe its something with all that shift kit and programming stuff you have. Or a torque converter not locking?

Maybe it does have to do with the tranny or the TC, im thinkin more on the lines of the TC. This is my first automotic car, I did have an auto pickup and it seemed to throw you in the seat harder than the maro. I dunno, somebody help me out here.

i woudl also advise on a MAF sensor cleaning, vaccum check, exhaust leak check, as well as any other possible source of knock retard that could cause the computer to pull timing.

also, try a new fuel filter, its cheap and easy, might as well have one less thing to worry about.

sounds like its doing what mine used to do a while ago. You mash it and they dont spin and its very sluggish but doesnt feel like its misfireing. Its probably your opti. I put a new one in and it fixed the problem.

Well I would say that I found it, I went outside Weds. night and popped the hood and saw a minor lightning storm. #8 cylinder plug boot was arcing onto the block and the coil case appears to be a little fried in 3 spots which is allowing juice to jump onto the bracket. I got the boot ruled out just gotta get a new coil tomorrow. Man one cylinder makes a HELL of a difference on these cars. She now gets sideways from a roll when you kick into the passing gear. God I love my B&M Shift Kit Thanks guys.
