AC compressor locked up for a 2nd time
AC compressor locked up for a 2nd time
alright guys i just had it rebuilt not too long ago and it locked up again, i think im just gonna buy a shorter belt and bypass the compressor, first of all has anbyone here done this before? secondly are there any performance gains from doing this?
AC
Not much when it is off, because the clutch is disengauged and just a free wheeling pully. The P/S on the other hand is a drain because it is moving fluid, but that is not what you ask.
I do have a Compressor that came out of my 93 that only has 20,600 miles if you want to get one locally. My 93 is becoming a drag car.
They are still working on relocation brackets for the alternator and keeping the AC and PS, but not ready yet. I got a relocation bracket for the alternator, with no PS or AC.

Don't give up on your A/C too soon. Make sure the shop has pulled your system down to a vacuum for at least 30 minutes. This will remove the moisture from the system. Also, when they replace the compressor, I think they are supposed to remove all of the oil from the new one, measure the amount in the old one, then put that same amount back into the new one. The new GM compressors used to come with a full A/C system charge of oil, I think its about 8 oz. Too much oil will hydrolock your compressor and give poor performance. Good Luck.
