abs inop light and low something?

I have a 94 z28 and I was wondering what could be causing my abs inop light to be coming on. And right above that there's something that looks like a low water gauge? It has a arrow pointing down to water? My engine coolant? I'm sorry, but I'm really new with this car and I don't have the manual. I checked my fluids but nothing seems to be low?

Sorry for such the long thread.....

The second light you refer to is low coolant. There is a sensor in the radiator towards the top (not far below the cap on the passenger side). This sensor is either bad - or you are in fact low on coolant. check your coolant level - if it's good you might want to try rebleeding the coolant system (search this forum for "bleeding coolant system" and you'll find directions on that.) If you are full on water and coolant system is properly bled - then your sensor is no good, and i personally would just ignore it (you will know if there is ever a problem when your engine temp goes out of control in my opinion...my low coolant light occasionally comes on as well).

On my old '94 T/A the ABS Inop light was on as well, turns out it was my spoiler brake light bulb burned out...i believe this is a common occurence. Have someone press your brake pedal and make sure both the lights in your spoiler are coming on - if not this may be the problem.

Hey thanks! I'm going to check it out tommorow. Its kinda dark so I'll leave it alone tonight. Oh, and what is my car supposed to idle at? I find it usually around 650-800 rpm. Sounds about right? I heard that cleaning the egr(?) gives u a smooth idle. Where is that located?

If the brakelight thing doesn't fix it, check the grounds on the passenger side fender next to the big RED positive power block.

Idle speed depends on coolant temp, on cold start in drive the car should idle around 800. Once it is fully warmed up it should be idling in the 600-650 area.

EGR stands for "exhaust gas recirculation" and actually consists of several components. It basically takes exhaust gas and pumps it back into your intake. The EGR valve being dirty can affect how well this systme is working but shouldn't make a noticeable performance/idle difference but will primarily affect how well your car cruises at low RPMs. The EGR valve is on the back of the intake manifold (it's basically a black round thing sticking out of the back). I would just leave it alone personally unless you have some indication that it's not functioning (such as an SES light and a code for EGR system).
