Unhappy abs inop light!!

well sometiems it will come on, and stay on then turn my car off and it wont be there, then a couple of car starts later it will come back, and it keeps doing this....what could this be? it mihgt be my sensors on my rear passenger wheel, bc i had a axel seal leak and may have caused it to get dirty but where are the sensors? if it isnt that then what would it be? not the brake lights check those out already!!

Re: abs inop light!!

I had the same problem and it turned out to be the ABS Control Module. Pretty expensive little computer to replace. A scan of the ECM will show the trouble code. I think though that when the ABS light turns on, it can be anywhere in the ABS showing a fault.

Check all the connections. Mine used to come on whenever it felt like it and I went to every electrical connector and double checked to make sure they were tight..

You can scan it anytime. See if your cruise control works. If not, pay real close attention to the third brake light. When the PCM does not detect the bulb, as in burned out, loose or bad connection. It will disable the cruise control and light the ABS light.

damn, i was going to say that you should check the brake lights, but you already had that covered. I really don't know how to fix such a problem, because no SES light comes on, correct? I guess you could try scanning it anyway though....

There are several. one on each side where the headers end; one on the rear pumpkin (axle) and the ones in the engine bay.

Re: abs inop light!!

this is gonna sound crazy but did you do a tuneup recently?? sometimes if the spark plug wires are touching the abs harness near the front wheels of the car it can screw it up.

Re: abs inop light!!

I had same problem once. Was my wheel speed sensors. 3 on the car. 2 front. 1 rear. same symptoms you described. I put sensors/hubs up front off of a 99 Trans Am on and they fit and worked perfect on my 93 Z28. Got em from Bill Graham at Graham's Camaro/Firebird parts for $25.00each+ shipping.

Mine did the same thing, turned out the ground wire where it screws into the fender (near the battery) was kinda loose. Took it apart, wire-wheeled it clean and screwed it back together tight, no problems since. Check this first!

GOS2SLO,
Have you ever ran your 97 at a track? I was wondering what kind of Elapsed Times you run with nitrous and the other few mods you have? Thanks.

Re: abs inop light!!

Nope, never have. In fact, I'm thinking of selling it and buying an LS1. We'll see, just want to make sure I can finance it AND do a person-person deal, I want to buy one with H/C and maybe a stall.

All the mods I have are in the sig, just debating on whether to keep throwing money at the LT1 or do the LS1 instead.

Re: abs inop light!!

that's cool. I guess the MAIN reason I keep playing with my 93 Z28 w/ LT1 is because it is PAID FOR and if I blow it up it isn't my main transportation.
