about time to change the o2's?

to my knowledge, the o2's are still the originals, at least they look like it how long do they usually last, i have a ses light that goes on when im on the highway every now and then, it sometimes goes off but not all the time, it is never there when i start the car, only after a couple miles of driving nice.

Get your SES code scanned, that way you know what to fix. As far as O2's are concerned 50K miles is probably a good rule of thumb. As they get coated with age, your car will burn richer and eat up more gas.

Re: about time to change the o2's?

the problem is that stupid obd2 connector! cannot find anyone with lt1 edit or any type of scanner that is adaptable, dont want to take it to gm, pay 75 bucks, which i dont have, to hear that my gas cap is not on tight! any ghetto way to check the codes?(hence the paperclip method). thanks

Well signs of bad o2 sensors is the idle is off. My car was idling at 1k now since I changed them it's a 750-800. Also the car was have a misfire at high speeds like it seems to hestate at a certian speed. It will screw up allot of things. The biggest problem I had was the hesatation. It felt like one of the spark plugs were bad.

right now im idling at around 900 or so, it has a slight "miss" when im on the highway in 6th and i give it gas. im gonna change them regardless now, figure it as preventive maintenance, along with the fuel filter, which is probably 90,000 mile old. that will kill top end correct?

Re: about time to change the o2's?

Yeah basically. I also have a 6 speed. It was bad because it was hesatating at a high gear rpm. Did you recently have headers put on the car. Mine went out when I had headers put on. I had my engine diagonis to see what the problem was and it was the left 02 sensor. So you might want to check that out instead taking guesses. I thought it was the opti spark at first. But like you said you should still change them. Just take them out and look at them. Thats another way you can tell - hope you fix the problem. That droves me nuts I imangine how you feel.

The o2 simulators are only for the rear. You have to have the front o2 sensors. The main reason you would use a simulator is if you eliminate your cat.

Oh, maybe a 95 does only have 2. I was going by my year being a 97. But again, you can't use sims for the front sensors.

I'm 100% sure the 95 has 2 O2's because I had to change them previously Get ACDelco ones, not Bosch. At least just for the peace of mind...

Re: about time to change the o2's?

I've got the bosch. I just did the o2 sensors CAT (random tech) and borla y-pipe all at once. I did it at about 96,000 miles. I haven't had any problems whatsovever. It might have been a little overkill to do everything I did, but that's just me.

I'm sure AC delco is fine, I just wanted to relay that I've not hat any problems with the bosch.

Re: about time to change the o2's?

A lot of people have no problem with boschs, but a lot of people have as well. Right now I've been battling a low RPM flutter on the highway, for a real long time. I switched to Bosch O2's as one of the first attempts to fix this, and since then have also replaced almost EVERYTHING on the car with no luck . After reading a bunch of old posts about people with Bosch sensors not working quite right, I've never had peace of mind ever since this has started about my O2 sensors. Finally I had to order new O2's because I couldn't take not knowing if these bosch ones were part of the problem.
Well, they'll be going in hopefully very soon (the new ACDelco O2's) and am crossing my fingers that they'll cure the problem. Knowing my luck probably not, but I would only recommend the ACDelcos because I havent heard anything bad about them, and because I've heard a few things bad about the Bosches.
I guess thats what I meant by "Peace of mind" If the new ACDelco's are the magic bullet I'm gona be hating the Bosches big time and making sure everyone knows it

Re: about time to change the o2's?

I have 97k miles on my original o2s, many people have told me to change them out but they are giving good readings (100-900 each once warmed up) so I am waiting for one to die on me. Could the 02s after age still give off good reading but not be as accurate as new ones? I am a firm believer not to fix something if it isnt broke.
