? about repairing damaged lt1 head

A year ago my motor locked while going down the track. A couple days ago, we were finally able to pull and dissassemble the motor. What we saw was that somehow the piston had come loose and done extensive damage to the #6 chamber and valve seat of 1 of the heads. Would it be possible to repair a damaged aluminum head? If not what are my other options?

Yes you can to an extent but you might find its not worth it for the price it will cost for welding and putting in the new seat.

Thanks for the reply. Would it be more cost effective to have another head matched up to the good head? I figured that would be more difficult and expensive since the originals are hand ported (stage 2) and flow quite well (270/197) therefore making it harder to duplicate.

I had some damage to the deck surface and chamber in one cylinder - my machine shop wanted $15 to do all the welding (pleasant surprise). When I got them back, there was no sign of the damage. The other repairs needed (seat replacement, valve job, ect.) won't be too bad if it's only one cylinder.

God,I hope I'm as fortunate as you. Somehow though, I think this will cost quite a bit more. Though it is only 1 cylinder that's damaged, it was damaged quite badly. I need a digital camera so I can post the pictures. The valve also broke completely off and that still hasn't been found.

I wasn't THAT lucky - it ended up costing me several hundred dollars (I had all the guides replaced, all new valves installed, decked, valve job, ect. - didn't need to replace valves and guides on the uneffected cylinders, but I figured I might as well since I had the heads off), but the cost of the welding put a smile on my face.
