Angry about to get rid of lt1 for good.. please help!

first off my car is a 93z28 with a recently built 383.

i started it up broke it in, then removed the heads to change the valve springs. i re- assembled the engine, and it fired right up. there were no problems at this point.

fast foward to today. turn key and crank and its all sporattic and weird. a friend who was watching said that the (GROUND?) strap coming off the driver side head to the frame sparked against a metal brake line touching it.

its all gone downhill since..

now with nothing else changed and jumper cables attached when i turn the key it reads no voltage on the dash, the fuel pump has stopped coming on when i turn on the key, and the starter dosent make so much as a click ( that i can hear anyway) yet i have voltage...

i tried jumping the starter solenoid right to the + terminal on the firewall and nothing still.

i know this is a tough question considerng alot of the wiring has been changed but can anyone point me in the right direction? im about to rip this thing out for a genIII

Have you checked all your fuses? Look under the hood and on the side of the dash and make sure they are all good.

Sounds like you just shorted something out electrical wise. Go through and check all your connections; make sure everything is hooked up properly. Sounds like you blew a main fuse or something similar.

What does having an electrical issue that should be easy to figure out have ANYTHING to do with switching motors completely where you could have the exact same issue if you hook something else up wrong?!?!?!? That's makes absolutly ZERO sense...

I think you need to give me your 383...

Seriously - fuses, connections, etc. You either blew a fuse or shorted/fried something out electrical. No sense in selling to get an LS1 - same mistake can be made with that.

If you have battery/ground/connection issues, a different engine is not going to fix it. If you can't jump the starter right on the solenoid, you have no power or your starter is fried. Do the headlights even come on?

is there any explanation for a ground strap sparking to a brake line?

can someone guide me as to which connections could have fried, the fuses are all ok, im not really sure where else to look besides the strap that sparked which is fine, starter wires are fine

is there any way to bench test my starter at home to make sure its functioning properly? i have a funny feeling i fried it and im way overthinking the problem

Three hours and fifteen minutes...problem to solution. Not bad...it would have taken me longer even if I was leaning on the wire.

yet another reason this site ROCKS

I know it is typical behavior for anyone to question what they just screwed up etc...

but a "reality check" from the folks on here set you straight...

I'm actually selling my '95 Z28, probably never to return (not a big fan of the 5th gen Camaro), but I have really appreciated this site and the generous contributions by the members (Rob and Fred specifically)

Bought a slightly used '07 Cayman S... (was looking at '08 C6 vettes, but found that I could swing the Porsche for similar jack)...

Peace ladies/gents... Again thx for everything.

lol, but this is the entire mentality of LS1>LT1 guys.

Sell the LT1 and don't modify your new car.
