A4 --> M6 swappers
A4 --> M6 swappers
I picked up another 4th gen for a driver and am in the process of swapping out the auto for a T56.
My question is: Is the A4 and T56 engine harnesses interchangeable? I am talking about where the engine harness plugs in under the passengers side dash. I dont see why it wouldnt. I know you can modify the A4 harness with the connectors needed for the T56, but it would be alot easier (plus I have an extra M6 harness) for me to just put this harness in and go. Both are OBD1 vehicles.....car is a 94Z, harness would be out of a 95 (since I am converting to the 95+ style opti as well).
Thanks, Jason

In a word, YES.
Contrary to what some have said, you do NOT need an M6 harness to convert your car. I kept my A4 harness in (if you put my car on a lift you can still see the round connector for the 4L60E tucked neatly alongside the T56).
VSS plugs in without a problem. You will still need to do some basic stuff like:
--Extend the yellow and brown wires on your A4 shifter and connect them to your clutch safety switch
--Cross the smaller green and brown (I think, it's been a while) wires on the A4 shifter to enable the trunk release button
--Wire up your reverse light switch
You can also tap a few pins on your ECM to enable reverse lockout.
Check www.afrashteh.com/t56 I think.

In my opinion it would be way harder to change out the entire engine wiring harness. Getting to all those wires will be a mjor pain. You only have to change 3 or 4 things on the a4 harness to use it.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention......the engine is already out of the car so I wouldnt be unplugging all the connectors
Everything is already unhooked, so I would just have to plug in the M6 harness.
I dont know....mabye its still easier to just adapt this harness.
Dave, thanks....sent you mail back
