If everything else is equal (driver, tranny, gears) then the LS1 will be faster. The LT1 SSs were rated at 305-310 depending on options I think, and this was a fairly accurate rating. The LS1 f-bodies on the other hand were rated at 305, but in actuallity put out 345-350HP just like the C5 Vettes. So you're talking about a 40HP difference.

I've owned 2 LT1's and 2 LS1's and loved both engines. My LS1's have less problems, are easier to work on, are alot faster stock for stock, are more responsive to mods, gets better gas mileage.

The LT1's sound better. Thats all I really think is better about the LT1. All in all either one is badass.

SS

maybe I'm biased though

I know that there is 1 less SS out there this year then last year

SS holds its value very well too, I got more then I paid for my SS when it was wrecked, didnt even have to fight with the insurance much, I jsut said I want 1500 more then that, and I got it, so I got almost 4k more then I paid.

and not to mention the LS1 Z28s look like catfish, where as the 97 SS is godlike

SS all the way. I see way more LS1's then I do LT1's. If your going to mod it internally, It really doesn't matter what engine you get. It's anyones game. Thats one of the reasons I got my WS6. I paid a bit more but it was all worth having my SLP car.
6 speed SS all the way.

It depends on what you want. If you want a street beast, get the SS and go internal.

If you want a run of the mill bolt on LS1, get the z28.

I would get the SS if i were you. I rather have an ls1 over the lt1 engine but i prefere the lt1 body style and the lt1 SS is a badass looking car. It will retain its value a lot better then the z28 ls1 car. You will be starting off with more power with the ls1 but with the extra money you would save on getting the SS you could put into mods. So basically that could get you headers and a good catback. Then you would be right up there with the ls1 power.

I would get the SS cause the LS1 is a 98. If you could find a good deal on a 01 or 02 LS1, then I would go with the LS1, but between those two, I'd say the 97.

Wait a little while, always helps to have patience. If i were you, i have a 97 z right now, as soon as i can get someone to take up payments on it, im goin with an LS1 SS. But if you do not have any patience or faith in getting a 98+ SS, get the 97 SS!
