97 z28 engine noise ( video ) :(

I have a 97 z28 w/ 180k miles, the motor i think is dying even thought it just ran a 14.1@97mph stock today 10/28/07
I have a friend that got hit from the rear on his 95 impala SS the engine has 38K miles on it. getting it for cheap complete, will I have any problems installing that into my car , I guess while the engine is out I will install new water pump and all new gaskets and possibly a cam kit any suggestions would be appriciated
I was going to sell the car but the body is mint along with under carage might as well just enjoy the car

I assume you meant 180,000 miles? If I was you I would do some more trouble shooting before condeming the engine. Sounds like you are just looking forward to replacing the engine .

I am sure you can make the Impala engine work. However, you may want to consider freshining up your engine. A built 355 would be a good choice.

yea man i wouldn't replace the engine noise because you hear some clicking. Is the car running any differently since the noise started? When was the last time you changed your oil? My friend had that noise coming from one of the heads in his jeep and he ran some sea foam through there and the noise stopped. Sometimes sludge will build up on the rocker and cause a noise like that. Other than that the car looks like its in fine condition.

yea you can you might as well since you'll have it.. but make sure you pour about 1/2 pint into the crankcase and let it run. Here is the link to their website actually they have all the directions and info in there http://www.seafoamsales.com/motorTuneUpTechGas.htm.

Also changing your oil that much can eventually have a negative effect on the engine, you should only changed it around 3000 or even a little more. Every time you change your oil and then start it up, there is no oil circulating through the oil system yet so you get a dry start. Eventually it will take its toll of the wearing of your bearings etc.

I wouldn't be pouring any sludge loosening additives in any engine, let alone one with 180K miles. Some of that crap might loosen up and plug an oil passage to a bearing.

From the video it doesn't sound like valve train. In fact, the noise seems to vary. It almost sounds like an exhaust leak. Make sure all of the vacuum lines, and intake elbow are tight. To futher isolate the noise, try taking a real long extension or screwdriver and place it on various componets with the other end in your ear. You would be suprised how it works.

BTW, great looking car!!

I did the screwdriver near the alternator, vavle covers and everything sounded good , tomorrow I will take the belt off and try to start it , maybe a bad smog pump or belt tensioner, I didnt want to risk sticking that long screwdriver in there while the car was on

the smog pump is electric, so the belt being off wont help you there. Could be the air conditioning.
