'97 up opti and spark test?!

does the procedure given on this website http://csce.uark.edu/~jgbertr/rb/4th...mpression_test
work for a '97 opti. I'm wondering because the diagram is from a '95 and the wire colors are different. anybody?

I think you posted the wrong link if you are testing the opti.

Is this what you meant? What wires are different? The only thing that I know is different is the wires and connector to the coil (not the ICM), since the later models have a single connector coil. The procedure does not say to test by wire color, but by the cavity designation. Testing should be the same.

it is strange. i keep testing it and i'm getting power on B and C not A and D. they are both around 11.5v. any ideas?

alright here we go. I found this diagram

that shows that A and D are the outer two wires, not inner. It must be different for the '97's. If that is your website shoebox, i would add that in there to avoid further confusion.

Not sure what that link to Toyota stuff has to do with it, but diagrams are frequently drawn in a way to simplify following the wires and readability. You should be looking at the cavity designations that are embossed on the connector to determine which is A-B-C-D. This is the way the connector actually is, so A and D would be on the outside as you say.
