I'm trying to persuade a friend to buy a '97 SS over a brand new Mustang GT, but he wants the GT.

What HP/TQ did the '97 SS make and what were its 0-60 and 1/4-mile times?

I know this car is faster than a new GT, but I just want him to know.

With the exhaust option HP was 305,dont know about torque or 0-60.1/4 mile was 13.7.

 

Times and hp depend on a few things....
Optional exhaust was a few hp. If the SS has two pipes coming out from the driver's side, it has the better exhaust.
The 6 speeds always seemed more desirable to me. Most SS's I have seen at the track run low 14's at around 100mph.
I have driven the new GT's and there is no comparison to mine. The SS just rocks over the GT.

Give me his address, I'll beat it into him!!! J/K I had a 97 SS with a few bolt ons. pulley, HPP, Ignition, wires, air foil, K&N. and I got a 14.2 out of it, SPINNING THE TIRES OFF!!, bad. clean past the 60' mark. 3rd gear caught the most traction. It trapped at 105.32 MPH. That is like a 13.50 or something close with traction. And possibly better with a good driver! Good Luck.

He's coming from an old V6 Grand Prix to a muscle car, I gave him a ride in my car, punched it when he least expected it and showed him what speed and power is, so I think the Camaro is too much for him, he says he likes the Mustang better, but I keep telling him the SS is ltd. ed., so it's worth more money.

Oh well, I will try to get him to buy a Camaro, but if he gets the Mustang is better than him going rice.
