97 lt1 heads were 7/16 studs right ?

 

No, 3/8. I know because I changed the rockers to Crane golds that were 3/8.

The bottom of the stud that screws into the head is 7/16, but the top side of all stock LT1 studs were 3/8. Because the bottom is already 7/16, the larger, fully 7/16 studs can go right in without any head work.
