I am looking at buying a 93 formula w/ 120k, the guy says it has a new motor in it w/ 7k on it from an 97. He says he has recipts that show this. Is this even possible w/ out a lot of fabrication. Also where the heck do you buy a new motor from a 97 ? I noticed in the engine pics of the car it still has speedensity. Is it possible to put a 97 motor in but use the 93 pcm and harness and still use speed density?

 

i dont see why not. All of the Lt1's are very similiar in wiring harness. I put a 96 in a 94. Some of the connections are different, but all of the ones that you need for it to run are the same. I dont see there being an issue. Its sounds like it is a 97 motor and he just used the 93 intake setup and is running that 93 pcm.

 

I'm just finishing up a motor swap of a 96 Z into a 93 Formula so I'd definitely say that is possible.

 

yes its very easy and very possible to put a 97 motor into a 93 car. Check and see if it has a vented opti for one, or pull the valvecover and look at the cylinder head part number.

 

The motor from the 97 is still an LT1 so there is not much fabrication needed to do the swap. As mentioned above, it sounds like the longblock is a 97 but with a swapped intake/computer from a 93.

 

Thats interesting. Do you really need to swamp in the intake manifolds, couldnt you just reuse the intake elbow etc..Now that I think of it, the intake in the pics does look fairly old, not like brand new so I am guessing that is what he did.

 

depending on how much of the 93 he put on the 97, you should beable to look at the timing cover and see a conection for a crank sensor.

but he could of put a 95 cover on it, or put the 93 cover and non vented opti... bla bla bla

 

Well the intake manifolds are different between a 93 and a 94+ car. The intake elbow is also different and can't easily add a MAF.

 

He is asking 5k for it. Im gona offer like 4,100. Do you think thats reasnable assumng the bottom end has 7k on it, and its a 6spd 93'(better ratios then the 93+ t56's)

you could build a nice 355, with heads for that much, and still have money left over.

 

I say more then half the people on this site need to read more carefully. He is not buying a motor, he is buying a whole car. Go read his post again. He would have to be totally retarted to buy a stock used motor for 4100.

I guess 4100 wouldn't be so bad, depending on the options/condition of the car. Give it a shot, good luck with the car if you get it.

I don't think he could be using the 93 cover and opti unless he put the 93 cam in the motor. As the opti is driven differently.
