96 SS and gear question

Ok... What does an LT1 SS(stock other than hypertech programmer) usually run in the 1/4 on street tires. And how much of an improvement should one expect switching from 3.42's to 4.10's?

Expect a high 13 to low 14, pending that you know how to drive and don't have wicked hooking-up difficulties.

4.10s are very popular for a T56 application. I'd assume you have an M6, because you have 3.42s, which were only an option on M6s (or Y87-equipped V6 Firebirds).

LOL Well..... It wasn't me that put them in MY car. A friend of mine with a 96 SS just did. He's been griping about them wining, but some gears just do that. The shop like quadruple checked clearances and he went back and they tried 3 more times to get them to quit. He likes them well enough, but says he has traction problems now. Imagine that 4.10's and street tires... And he doesn't even drag race. He's more into street racing type things, so I though the gears might not be much of a help on the street. I just got curious about what it might do at the track. Out of the blue I had told them before I knew he had ordered them, to never put 4.10's in his car since he never took it to the track. I told him this because on the way over to see him I had spun most of the way just playin around(with 4.10's) and he has the same size tires I do. Our friend was there and she was like "too late" I was like WTF. Did you already get some put in, and he said no I got them in my room though. I have a 95 mustang GT(not the slug most 94-95 GT's are) with 4.10's and it's share of mods(including removed front anti sway bar for weight transfer), and it's hard getting the power to the ground in it.
When I put the gears in my car though I had plans for drag strip duty, and a different setup which is under construction as of this moment:
70/30 front struts
adjustable drag shocks rear
upper and lower control arms
Weld Prostars 15x8 rear with 295 tires
" " 15x3.5's in the front(more transfer)
sub frame connector
It should hook up on this chassis combo, but how do you guys hook a low-slung F-body with 17in wheels? I currently have 17x9's with 275/40's on em and the tires don't have enough sidewall flex to cushion the blow from a manual transmission car like mine or his.....In my experience even Nitto drag radials (which hook) in 17in wheel sizes are better for auto cars, and stick cars need a sidewall to give a little with the shock of a launch... Any suggestions to help my friend with a traction problem would be appreciated.
