96 Pacesetter Emissions Headers - AIR Block

Hey Board-

Lets say you bought some emissions headers and then decided to remove the AIR fittings. What would you use to block the hole? The eBay items for 96-97 are incorrect as these seem to be threaded on the outside...

Anybody else run into this?

I'd saw off the tubes and take it to a shop and have them weld some plates over the holes before I installed them.

i have emissions headders with air fitings and no secondary air injection. there is a guy on e-bay who i think is or was a supporting vendor who sells nice stainless block off plugs. search for lt1 block off. i cant remember how much i payed. but like the previous poster said a good exhaust shop could cut and weld and you would not have the fittings on your headders which may look cleaner.

I was kinda hoping I could find the right block off for this and be done with it. The cut and weld would look better though...

I tried block offs

I tried block offs from eBay, but the threads are on the OUTSIDE of the headers. Sounds like there may be a home depot fix in my future...

I got caps for my Mac mid-length header airtubes from AutoZone as well. I think the item is the oil drain plug for a Dodge truck with the Cummins Diesel. While the cut and weld is the overall neatest look, I went the way of caps.

Thunder Racing

ok, Thunder Racing says $37 for these??? I have taken the headers around to several pipe shops and they are having issues matching the thread. Is this thing really that specialized?

People that responded with the drain plug options, thanks, but the pacesetters are threaded on the outside and any type of frain plug will not work. This needs a cap. 96SSIndeed, can you post a pic of yours?

Thanks.

As he's already posted, the threads are on the OUTSIDE. A plug won't work. You need a brass cap. I forget the size, I think it's 5/8 flare. Just take your AIR check valves to Home Depot or Lowes and find a brass fitting that screws into them, then get the cap that will fit that.

Solved

I ended up getting a fitting from a local supply huse. They said it was a 14mm cap. $8.

I was actually working on getting the part from Thunder Racing, but they could not even send me a pic of what it looked like. I have bought a lot of expensive MBA stuff from them, but not real impressed with the customer service there.

Re: 96 Pacesetter Emissions Headers - AIR Block

sorry to bump an old post, i have a '96 with pacesetter longtubes with EGR/air fittings and i'm going to do !EGR/!AIR.

I was wondering, is it possible to block off the headers with the same plate that is used on stock exhaust manifolds? (i assume it is, as it looks the same...i didn't do the headers on my car so i'm not sure)

also, is it possible to block-off the EGR at the header with the headers on the car? it is very cramped, and looks like i will have to remove the starter to even have a chance at getting to it.
