96-97 Camaro SS How to find what # you own?

How do you find out what #SS you have mine is a 97 and i just bought it... Any help would be great...

well assuming u didnt get the SLP build sheet u can contact SLP with ur VIN and or Chevrolet and they can get ur build number
also on each door jamb there are SLP stickers that i belive tell u the optional equipment they put on ur car btu im nto to sure if ur build number is on there ....good luck

It was stuffed inside the owners manual i went through it once and never saw it but i found it the second time... They kept the SLP build sheet but not the window sticker

There isn't a little plaque next to the shifter? There was in a '96 that I test drove.

Nope the only plaque is above the radio that says camaro ss ... Does anybody have a plaque behind the shifter on a 97 SS... I did some research and saw the 96s had the plaque but i don't think they did that in 97 but i could be wrong...

I'm sure that you are right, I've never driven/ridden in a '97, just a couple of '96s.

That sucks though i would like the plaque also...Maybe someone else can add some insite to the subject...

Just a random guess, but the plaque location probably changed when they changed the interior style from 96-97.

yea the 96's had the plaque with the car number by the shifter...the 97's just had a "camaro ss" plaque above the radio....im still annoyed...my sheet says i have one but i just have a crappy plastic "camaro" thing

Only the 96 Camaro SS had the plaque placed behind the shifter (on the ash tray cover) and it had the build number. But the 97's recieved the new interior, so they just have a "Camaro SS" plaque on the dash (right above the radio console if my photo memory is correct )
