'95 Z28 is leaking oil in 2 spots, why?

My '95 Z28 is leaking a few drops of oil in 2 different spots when parked. Here's a pic of the garage floor, this is about 2 weeks to 1 month's worth of drips. http://members.aol.com/speedbbb/oildrips.jpg
The oil drops span a 32 inch long area. I don't work on my car and it is completely stock and has almost 69,000 miles. What could be wrong? It is clearly leaking in 2 spots.

You need to get under the car, so you can see what is going on. Clean up the area to able to trace the leak. No one over the internet can difinitively tell you where an oil leak is. If you don't work on your own car, you will just have to pay someone to find and deal with it.

Why is it leaking? Because it needs new gaskets in certain spots. By the looks of those it can be a few things, crank seal, timing chain cover gasket, rear man seal or intake manifold, oil pan...you need to look underneath like shoebox said.

Timing cover and rear main or intake

Re: '95 Z28 is leaking oil in 2 spots, why?

My sister had the car checked by a mechanic today and he said that the intake is leaking the oil. I don't think that is it. We had the oil changed a month ago and the leaking started. It wasn't leaking before the oil change. It seems to be leaking from the top of the oil pan or something, does the oil pan have to be removed in order for the oil to be changed? Could someone have screwed up the oil pan?

Here are a bunch of pictures, maybe one of you can help me figure out the problem. Make sure to read my titles/captions to see what my question or comment is about the pic.

I would really appreciate the help. I can't afford to fix the car right now, I just bought all my college books. go here then click the album named "oil leak"

Based on the pics it's possible oil is leaking from the rear of hte intake manifold or is leaking from the rear seal (this would be behind the flexplate/flywheel). A small oil leak isn't anything to be TOO concerned about, as long as you watch your oil level...if you wake up one morning and it looks like you've lost 1/5th of a quart then you got problems ;-) Since my rebuild my stupid broken oil level sensor has been leaking like 5 drops or so everytime i park the car...it's no big deal i just watch the level.

Do you know how this would be fixed? Why would the mechanic tell my sister it would take 7 hours to fix it? If it is just a leaking gasket, it seems like you'd just need to remove the old one and use that gunk in a tube to make a new one. I need clarification on this stuff because I'm an idiot .

I really really really hate to sound so stupid, but does oil run through the power steering line?

Expect to change seals every couple of years. Its a common thing with these cars. Not sure why really probably just lack of quality went into these things, it pisses me off when another common lt1 defect shows its green eyes. Man are these cars money pits or what? Good luck, cuz from most common to least, I would say timing cover, intake, oil pan, or rear main. I've changed all of these on my 96 T/A and will probably be doing it again on my 97 soon.

My experience is not like that at all. At 85k+ miles, my car had never left a drop of oil on my driveway and the engine was very clean. The lack of quality must not bother you too much, since you have two. I don't care for posts that over-generalize. Experiences vary, due to many factors.

If the mechanic said it is leaking oil from the intake, it is probably at leat one of the culprits. It is usually in the rear and eaisily mistakeable for other leaks. Shoebox has a writeup on his site on how to fix it. I know mine is leaking from there and the timing chain cover and probably a few other places, but I'm waiting till I do my heads/cam in the spring and I'll seal everything up real well then. No pressing need to do it.

If its the rear main seal it wouldn't take 7 hours but it would take a good 3-4

Agreed, my camaro at 133k miles and my T/A at 115k miles never leaked a drop. My friend's '95 Z-28 also does not leak a drop and he has almost 130k miles now too.
