95 Z-28 No Start

After installing my motor back in the car it won't start. There is no power at the end of the purple wire going to the starter solenoid. I followed the wire into the car where it ended at a relay on the right side of the glove box. The brown wire going into the relay coming from the ignition switch has 8.5 volts with the key on and 12.99 when you are starting the car. The security light is not on the dash so I know its not a vats problem, or at least i'm assuming its not. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Did you check out SH.box.com (ignition wires, etc.)? JMHO

Yes, i looked at his site. I know everything is connected but the purple power wire isn't getting power. I wanted some input on what I should specifically look for. Maybe a bad clutch pedal switch or something like that? Idk, I'm at a loss right now.

Post up the results of the opti and spark test from shbox.com.

It's not the opti spark... The purple wire going to the starter solenoid has no power, there fore the starter will not engage. I can get the motor to turn over if I run a wire from the starter solenoid to the positive battery cable. Using the key the motor will not spin over.

Is there a link fuse there? What about jumping the relay---seems that if you have power going into it and not out of it that it is either a fuse or a bad relay. What happens when you go around the relay?

There is no fuse in the purple wire, so that's not an issue. I haven't tried to jump the relay however, I have replaced it with six different ones, I had some old harnesses laying around. I'm pretty sure that out of seven total relays that one of them would be in working condition... I know that there are two other wires going into the relay, a yellow one and a yellow/black one. I have not traced to see where these wires go, but judging from schematics on shbox the yellow is from the clutch pedal switch and the yellow/black was something to do with the theft system. Both of these wires with the key on have roughly 8.5 volts. Haven't tested them yet with the key in the start position. I know how the typical relay works, power in, power out, ground, and a power source to close the relay but this relay has three wires that are hot with the key on and the purple wire that goes to the starter. If anything above is confusing let me know.

If you take a look at the Starter/Charger schematic you will see that the yellow wire goes to the neutral safety switch at the clutch and the yellow/black wire goes to anti-theft relay.

I was just looking at them actually, do you have any ideas of what the problem might be?

try bypassing the clutch switch with a jumper wire if that doesnt do it then it in the anti theft relay or relay circuit.

I'm probably the last person to know. I hazard a guess that it is the ignition system since you are able to go directly from the battery to the solenoid and start.

So it's a process of elimination.

Fuses, relays, grounds, neutral safety switch.

How much juice is supposed go to the solenoid. If no juice at all is going to the solenoid, what stands in the way of the juice getting to the purple wire? The neutral switch is an open switch which closes when the clutch is depressed. So it the switch is bypassed does that allow the puple wire to get hot?

If you can't figure it out and one of the (much smarter) guys on here can't help you out, I guess it's a trip to the electric shop for an analyses.
Might be worth relieving yourself of the stress. Good Luck.

My simple mind says that if the ignition switch allows you to run the lights, radio, fan, windows, etc. Then the problem is most likely the neutral safet switch, anti-theft relay, another relay or fuse.

Whatever it is, please let us know, since I am really curious now.

I will definately keep you guys informed. Thanks for all the inputs so far. As soon as I get home from work I'm gonna try to bypass the clutch switch and see if that gets me anywhere, hopefully that switch is bad.. Keep the ideas coming so I have more to look at if that doesn't fix the problem.

looking at the schematic it goes through the clutch pedal switch and through the anti theft relay

Im guessing the anti theft relay is the one right next to the starter relay? If the anti theft relay was bad wouldn't the security light on the dash be on? I'm not quite sure how exactly the systems tie together, so I'm gonna have to look at the car and the schematics some more..
