95 OBDI w/OBDII plug, WTF!!

I have known this for a while now, but it had never affected me. Until I was throwing a code. Other people can take their cars to Autozone and get a free scan, but I cant. What could I do? Changing it over is an option, i guess, how much does that cost? And another stupid thing, I cant find a transmission shop that will even diagnose my car because of the aftermarket tuning, wtf can I do about that?? Sorry for venting, getting tired of the tranny and people telling me they cant help me.

95's got the OBD2 port with the OBD1 pcm, thats normal. Someone else should be able to tell you how to pull trouble codes. I would think you could ground the correct pins and count the blinking SES just like any OBD1 but thats just a guess. YOur alot better off with the OBD1, many OBD2 people convert because their easier and cheaper to work with.

Can't flash the codes unless it's a 93 or an earlier model.
He probably reffered to converting to an OBDI connector. Some people have done it before, but I wouldn't do it. Just get the right scantool for it. It's worth the investment, and if you have a laptop, you can buy a cable and scan it free.

Contact Andrew@ www.akmcables.com if you want a cable.

Yeah, i know im lucky to have the OBDI, but how would I ground the prongs. I know how to do it w/and OBDI plug, but have never seen anyone do it with the OBDII. Just confuses me why they did that.

If you have an O'reilly auto parts nearby, check to see if they have the scanner available. Some in our area have the rental scanner which can pull codes, scan operating parameters, and datalog. I just finished the last part of my SES light saga.

I had replaced my airflow meter and would still get an SES light. Only now, after replacing the meter the light would come on when driving, but as soon as I stopped the light would go off. Put the car in neutral or park and the light would come back on. Start driving, the light would come back on.

I then scanned the car once more, the air meter didn't show but I got a code 29 for a EAS electrical fault. Well I had no clue as to what that would be and the books say its the air pump. So, by tracing my connectors, I found the airpump fuse was blown. I replaced the 20 amp fuse and now I have no more SES light.

I'm ready for a frozen Rita!! Anyone else want to celebrate!!??!!

I had the same problem. Autozone couldn't diagnose my problem. If you have a laptop (or access to one) buy a cable and download Craig Moates' program. It's free and the best way to go, IMO.

Wazzzup!?!?! How's dem Tigers doin' Cher?

Autozone was a waste of time for me also. It was funny to watch the manager tell me my PCM was bad and for a $$$ he could order me a new one for my car. Losers!!

So I guess the only way to go now is to buy the cable and do this stuff myself. O'reily's has the scanner though, that you can rent? Then why doesnt Autozone have the scanner to scan my car? Oh well, now I know my options. Thanks for all the replies.

Autozone only scans OBD-II cars. Yours is OBD-I. You can use any OBD-I scanner if you adapt it like this, using pins 5 and 9 on the DLC under the dash.

Because unless you have a HONDA or some hoopty, Autozone just does not cater to our cars.

Of course they do have the best warranty on window motors.

Thanks shoebox, I will have to try that method. I'll try using a friends scanmaster or something.

Hell, I dragged one of my pc's down to the garage just to scan the car before I got this laptop (or the other one.. these things are popping up everywhere). You can't go wrong with getting the right cable for the job.. worth every bit of what Andrew charges for them. And by the way, freescan is pretty cheap too .

I won $20 off of the AutoZone guy because he didn't think my car was an OBD1. This was when I thought it was an OBD1 before I found it was trully so.
