'95 LT1 conversion to LT4?

How much would this cost? And, do you recommend this conversion? What all else would I have to do with the car? Suspension, etc.

well the kit costs 2300 from summit and after that depending on if your doing the instal youself the only other thing you'd pay for is gettig your pcm tuned properly. you wouldnt have to get better suspension perse but you might want to improve the transmission and if you further mod the car you'll have to worry about the rear end, but not till you get to around 400-500 rwhp. this kit with the hot cam would give you 425 hp at the fly and probably 360 or so at the wheels.

Nope not worth it. The cash you have to pay without labor just isn't worth it. You could spend much less and get more hp/tq. going elsewhere. If it's power your looking for and you just see LT4 as an option just look around a little more and find better options. Not that an LT4 is a bad setup, just terribly underpowered for the money you spend. Too much money for too little benefit.

Edit: Also as with any increase in power you need added suspension, tires, transmission strength, etc. to put power to the ground and use it to the best of your ability.

What the heck are you guys talking about. The LT4 conversion kit can be had from Jason or Dal for like $500. Includes everything you need for the conversion. It may not be LT4 heads and intake, but it will be the same as far as performance. The LT4 heads have more porting capability, but they are no different as far as flow goes from the factory.

And, for the common modder, you will like the difference and you will notice it.

There are two LT4 cams, the production one - not much different from stock LT1, and the LT4 hotcam, the hotcam comes with the LT4 conversion kit along with 1.6 R.R.'s

Yup LT4 conversion and LT4 hotcam are not even close to the same thing. Well similar, but still not the same.

the lt4 conversion from summit comes w/ all the gaskets, new completely built LT4 heads, red powdercoated LT4 intake, 1.6 GM Bowtie aluminum roller rockers (Crane), and the LT4 Hot Cam.

I've had a lot of fun out of my conversion, although I'm checking to see if my cam is installed straight up, not making as much power as promised.

From what I have seen you will see anywhere from 360-400 hp at the crank w/ this conversion. The 425+ numbers was from More Performance testing the conversion w/ a MOTEC engine control system, not the stock LT1 pcm by any length.

If you have any questions about the conversion, just let em fly.

Of course, that price doesn't include fluids, assorted hardware, time, etc etc. Expect to pay about $2,600-3,000 when it's all said and done. I also did a 52mm tb, 30# injectors, 95 vented opti, and melling high volume oil pump while my motor was pulled, so I spent a bit more, but did all the work myself w/ the help of a bud.

Yeah spending anywhere below 3k for a conversion like that is gonna require pretty much all of the work to be done yourself. Keep that in mind if you aren't sure you can do it, or you don't know anyone who could help you. Actually just about anything you do will require you doing your own work to keep costs down. If your comfortable with that then you'll be fine.

just for funsies, act like you're going to order something and see what they charge, it's stupid. they are ran by a dealership in winston-salem, nc, can't remember if it's modern or what, they make so much $ off shipping, they will not do counter sales from the parts direct business, even if you know people on the inside, i've tried!

the concversion is not worht it. call loyd eliot in redoak tx. he can port your heads and give you a custom grind cam. not a off the self cam (custom grind). its made for your engine. all for 1400. tahts springs locks retaners ready to install. and the guys doin this have lontubes 3o#inject. 58mm TB. and his heads and cam. and they are puting down 409 in a a4 and 420s in a m6. and you cant tell me the conversion is worth the money.

thers no way i would spend 2400 bucks for 361 rwhp (with 15% drivetrain loss) and if you dont have headers you may see 340 rwhp if your lucky.

now if you want to be able to say i got an lt4. and that what you want then be all means go for it. but if you want performance you can better spend you money.

It's not an LT4 conversion. It's an LT4 hotcam kit. Just comes with a hotcam and all the necessary items to install a cam. A lot of people like it because they don't have to waste time and still save a little money by getting all the needed parts as one kit, instead of all seperate. Again, it is just a cam, nothing else. LT4 conversion involves a few more parts

Oh and I 100% agree with 97Z. Lloyd is absolutely awesome.

My point being with the roughly $500 Hotcam Kit, was that you get roughly the same performance as a stock LT4 vehicle. It didn't seem aparent to me that he meant the whole top half of the engine, and, in my opinion, it is not worth it to get the parts new for that price. I purchased the LT4 Heads and Intake and used the hotcam kit in my car and was able to do it all for roughly what a normal cam swap would be ($1000) I bought the heads and intake used. I got lucky and the heads were already ported, polished and port matched to the intake by Llyod Elliot. (Came with paperwork) Good Luck and if you can get the LT4 heads and intake used, then do so. They have more potential then the LT1 heads.
