95 lt1 with 178,000 miles what to do next.

Like I said, the car has 178,000 miles on it. It also has headers, highflow cat, no muffler, and intake. I will soon be getting my tax returns in, and im wondering what to do. I really want a cam or gears but im worried about the engine with this high of milage. What should I do? I have been thinking about a rebuild or maybe even buy a stock low mileage lt1. I'm just wondering how much this would all cost me or if it is even nessicary. Suggestions would be very appreciated.

Some say don't fix it until its broke. I wouldn't cam a 178K mile motor. If I were you I would focus on other areas of moding... suspension, drag rims/tires, etc. I would wait till the motor goes. When it does, you can get a nicely built motor. What rear and trans are you running on now? The price quote for a rebuild would not be very usefull at all to you unless you know what kind of rebuild you want to do. Stock rebuild? 383? Budget? What goals are you looking to obtain? Street Driven? You need to first pick what kind of motor you would like then go from there.

I would save for a rebuild. I got 160K on the clock and I think Im going to start saving up.

i vote rebuild as well. those bearings and rings are most likely down for the count.

I want 350 rebuild done RIGHT back to 0 miles. how much is that going to cost me. If its not to much more what would it take to get to 355 and 383. Stock rear and 6-speed.

You can get a 355 from Golen for like 2500$ with good stuff! You can do all the work yourself and take it to a shop and have it done cheaper.... but then you have to get dirty. LOL

I always say do as much as you possibly can yourself so that if/when something breaks, you can troubleshoot it yourself because you know exactly what you did and how you did it. Just take your time and do it right the first time. I'm with everyone else here. I'm trying to save for when my motor goes, and I'll probably go with a budget 355 for mostly street use. The more hp you make at the motor, the more you have to put into the drivetrain. (i.e. rearend, clutch, driveshaft, etc.) I'd stick with suspension and tires for now.

Just got tires. I like the idea of buying a new block and building it as I go untill the one I have in blows or I have the new block done. Im not to worried about suspension untill i get the motor done. What do you think?
