95 Camaro Z28 Lifter noise

Hi, I recently bought a 95 Camaro Z28 and i have a little lifter noise under the drivers side valve cover gasket. I took it to my mechanic a few wks back and he adjusted the lifters about a quarter turn. It did not help the lifters are still making noise, any ideas??

You should adjust them and not just tighten them all. Mine have always been a little noisy.

Do you know if they are roller rockers?

It's the original motor, so I think they do have Roller Rockers that are self adjusting?? I think

My mechanic tried to adjust them, not just tighten them. The lifters arent terribly loud, but you can hear them over the motor. Does anybody think that Rislone motor treatment will help quiet them? If that does not work, what would be the best replacement lifters?

Motor oil additives don't really fix anything..they might mask the noise though.

You'll probably gfet a tonm of answers on what's best but I'd suggest just getting the GM replacements...they're the same parts used on the LS7, etc.

I agree, they are the best for the money.

Thanks for the replies. Will I need anything else to change out the lifters? Like new pushrods or anything else?

As long as the pushrods aren't bent you can reuse them.

Re: 95 Camaro Z28 Lifter noise

Thanks! I had a friend of mine come look at my lifters, he loosened the rockers and tightened them up to 7/8ths of a turn, including the quarter turn my mechanic did to it. The noise still did not go away, maybe they're just supposed to be a little noisy. On another note, when I took the valve cover off the left side of the motor, there was a letter L in black sharpie, so i'm guessing that my heads have been off, could that have anything to do with the lifter making noise?? Any Ideas would be appreciated.

Stock rockers and lodgers are not supposed to be 'a little noisy'. Sorry to say but you've got a lifter replacement job in your future. If you stick with the stock rockers check the rocker 'ball' for galling before you reinstall them.

I'd also recommend you go to Rob's page www.shbox.com and go to the page on adjusting the valves and adjusting from fresh. With the mechanic adding some preload and your friend adding another twist you may be on the edge of damaging something or having a valve hang open....

Re: 95 Camaro Z28 Lifter noise

To be honest, I don't really understand all of the terminology on lifters and rockers. My friend set each rocker to zero lash, a clacking noise, and then adjusted 5/8ths of a turn and he included the 1/4th turn my mechanic did and said not to go past 1 full turn, so i'm still under the 1 full turn that is the limit of how far you should go from what he said.

Re: 95 Camaro Z28 Lifter noise

My friend also said, i may have an exhaust leak by my y-pipe, it still has the stock exhaust on it, so I think maybe that leak would make the noise sound worse? The lifters are getting plenty of oil and my oil pressure at hot idle is around 15-17lbs with the stock guage, so who knows what it really is. I also forgot to add on my post last night that my friend thought my rockers may be making the noise and not my lifters, does that sound possible?

Fix the exhaust leak and see how it sounds before replacing the lifters. OEM roller lifters are very durable and are rare to go bad.

Re: 95 Camaro Z28 Lifter noise

I went to a local exhaust shop today and they said that I didnt have any exhaust leaks, we even had the car up on the lift and let if run and walked underneath. I'm out of ideas to try to fix the lifters, if anybody else has any ideas that doesn't include me changing the lifters, feel free to speak up! lol
