95+ cam in a 94 engine without opti conversion?
Possible without a lot of headaches?
IIRC, the difference is in pin height, but can I adjust/replace it without special equipment? The cam is an 847 and I want to put it in a 94 engine. I'd rather not do the opti conversion unless I have to. (don't have anything against the non-vented opti personally ;) ) Thanks! |
i don't think you can. I thought the unvented opti was run off splines on the shaft, the 95 cam won't have those splines. Maybe i am wrong that just what i thought i heard.

Check out this webpage.... Quote "A late cam is compatible with an early optispark as long as the cam pin is installed at the correct height."

the only difference i can tell (i have a 94 and 95) is the dowel pin length that goes into the opti... though I cant remember which one is longer.. i think the vented optis required longer dowel pin, though i could be wrong, but if im not, then all you need to do is grind a little off.

I just built a 383 and I ordered a custom cam. They sent me a 95 up. All I did is grind down the pin. I also did this same thing with my 355.

I wish i could get ahold of a LT4 Hot cam kit that would kit a 94

I think all LT1 cams have the longer pin. At least aftermarket ones. My XE 224/230 had the long pin and I just cut it to the length of my stock 94 cam using a dremel w/ a cutoff wheel. It's easy.
