Thanks For Taking A Minute, My Disaster Started With A Hesitation Problem, Car Has 98xxx Miles So I Figured I Would Fix This Problem All At Once I Replaced Opti, Wires, Plugs, Coil, Fuel Filter, Oil Change, Tps, Removed Intake And Cleaned. After All Was Complete Went To Start And Car Wouldnt Fire, Changed Fuel Pump Relay. Car Started But Ran Like.....well Horrible, Felt Like Misfiring And Had A Loud Metal Rattling Comin From Engine Bay Under Heavy Acceleration. I Check All Wires, Everything Was Good. Finally Got Fed Up With It And Took It To A Well Respected Shop, After A Whole Day The Only Thing They Could Tell Me Was That All Cyl Were Misfiring. I Kept Driving The Car For About A Week After Problem Began And Now Car Blows Smoke Under Heavy Acceleration (black Smoke) Car Dies At Intersections. But Now My Main Problem On Way To Work I Was Driving At Normal Speed And Around 50 Mph I Accelerated Slightly And Car Had No Acceleration. Car Eventually Came To A Stop And Will Not Start. Again I Am About Fed Up Where Do I Start, Rebiuld, Easy Fix, Crate Motor?

 

Sounds like a bad OPTI.... Sometimes even new/rebuilts are bad..... Or the timing is off when the OPTI was replaced by a tooth or two....

 

What did you do to assure you had proper alignment of the distributor drive shaft when you put the new one on?

 

Its A 94 So I Just Aligned The Shaft Notch The Only Way It Would Go On..it Went On Without Any Force. And Also Another Fyi I Didn't Buy The Distributer As A Complete Unit I Bought The Cap And Rotor And The Back Part Of The Opti Whatever That Is Called.

 

Didn't you have a shaft the size of a pencil sticking out of the back the distributor that was splined?

 

I think what you have to do now is set number one cylinder to TDC and pull the cap off the distributor and see if the rotor is centered on the number one cylinder contact point.

 

Yeah But It Would Still Fire Just Not Idle Normal, Right. Im Gonna Take The Opti Apart Tomm. And Check Things Out.

 

Allright, Took It All Apart Yet Again And Nothing Was Out Of The Ordinary I Took It All The Way Down To The Timing Chain, Still All Things Were Normal. But I Say I Failed As A Wanna Be Mechanic, I Took It To A Shop I Will Let Everyone Know The Outcome.

 

i had the same problem with mine after replacing just the cap and rotor on my opti and ended up having to buy the whole unit. get on gmpartsdirect.com and get you another one! really though i had the exact same problem it was the optical sensor in the distributor that pretty much controls everything.

 

I Got The Car Back. It Was The Ignition Module Sensor (if Thats What It Is Called) Above The Coil Pack. But That Is The Least Of My Problems It Still Runs Horrible And I Have Blow By. Smoke Comes Out Of The Dipstick When Taken Out An It Idles Rough.
