94 opti on a 95?

I have a working non-vented opti from my 94, and Im about to get my donor engine that is a 95. Its missing the water pump and opti. I wanted to swap in the running engine while I tear down and rebuild the crapped out 94. Now the 94 will be converted to the ltcc setup when Im done so I really have no use of buying a new optispark just for a motor that won't be in any longer than a year. But since the 95's are dowel driven, can I swap out my timing cover and opti from the 94 and chop the dowel pin? Or can it change over to the 95 style with a new msd cap and rotor? I cant justify spending 250 on an optispark that Im not going to use long when I have a working one.

sorry, I have zero experience with LT1's

Yes, you'll also need the 94's opti wire harness, opti splined shaft, and upper timing gear.

Cool all those will be no problem. I will be re-using the 94 wiring harness anyway.

So I just replace the upper timing gear, chop my pin, reinstall the spline shaft with the timing cover, and I'm good to go? Is there any need to do the MSD cap/rotor business?
