94 lt1 engine building
94 lt1 engine building
I have questions regarding the builds of a lt1. I have a 94 stock lt1. I know more about the old school SBC and I've read up on the wiki on the engines. I know after 87 they changed them up and before or after 96 they changed the head and intake angles? I notice the lt1 kinda classify as its own type of engine aside from the other 350's. This kinda limits my results for parts searching for specific lt1 parts. Does most 87- or pre vortex parts interchange with the 94 lt1 350? (Cam, lifters, rockers...etc I know its best to measure the parts and match up. I really would like to broaden the range of my build by having more options then the lt1 listed parts. Thanks for any and all replies.

Re: 94 lt1 engine building
Here's an article that identifies the differences between the Gen 1 SBC and the LT1 (Gen 2). The LT1 was first used in 1992, in the Corvette. It continued use through the 1997 model year in various Corvettes, F-bodies and B-Bodies.
The key differences are on the front of the engine - the front mounted distributor, and the reverse flow cooling water pump. Another significant difference, with regard to the reverse flow cooling system, is that the Gen 1 and Gen 2 heads are not directly interchangeable, without reconfiguring the coolant passages. The intake manifold bolt pattern for the LT1 heads is different than the Gen 1 heads. Exhaust ports on the LT1 are D-shaped.

And for in-depth rebuild info, this book is a great reference:

Cranks, Rods, Pistons, Oil pumps, Roller rockers, guideplates, rocker studs, head studs/bolts, main studs/bolts, rings and bearings will interchange with gen I sbc late model factory style roller cams and lifters work as well. 86 - up oilpans will work as well.
