Question 94-95 headers on a 97???A few ?'s

I am going to be running 94-95 style mac single cat headers on my 97 LT1. I also have a 94-95 style Borla cat-back and 02 sims. I've been told by a few people that even if I run a MAC off-road pipe to connect between the y-pipe and Borla system that it won't be long enough and I'll need custom work done, is that true? I personally think that it will work with the off-road pipe.
I've just been getting conflicting stories and need to know before I start the install.

Thanks,
Tyler

you never said what Y-pipe you are going to use. If you have 94 headers, 94 Y-pipe with cat or offroad pipe, and 94 borla it isn't going to matter what year of dar you put it on it will match up perfectly. If you are using a 97 Y-pipe just save your money and don't buy a offroad pipe just let a muffler shop build a pipe the right size. ( cheaper then a offroad pipe anyway) and you'll be set.

youll need an S-pipe to connect the Y-pipe to your borla I-pipe. there are a couple options however. you can either buy an S-pipe from SLP.. only place i know who carries them or you can do what i did which is let an exhaust shop hack off the last 12" or so of your factory y-pipe and either put on a cat or weld up a straight pipe.

heres kinda how your exhaust lines up to show you why you need an S-pipe.

I'm going to be using the supplied mac y-pipe. It doesn't have any cats and I will use the off-road pipe to connect it to the borla cat-back. Hope that helps.

Wouldn't everything line up properly without an s-pipe if both the headers and catback are 94-95 single cat styles? I thought you only needed an s-pipe if you were running single cat headers with a dual cat cat-back.

If your whole system is for the same years of cars (94-95) you will have NO problems. The engine is in the same place in all years and the cars are the same length . so like I said if headers to tail pipe match in years then the car's year don't matter. Hope this helps.

Thanks diablo, that's what I've been thinking but wasn't quite sure. I've heard of other prople having problems but I think that's because they were running the single cat headers with a dual cat cat-back.

Thanks again
