Possibly a resistance problem in the wiring harness for the sending units or gauges??

I haven't done anything to it. It's still all factory. Guess girls don't get into modifying things much. It just started out of the blue. The water pump was bad which we changed then we found a pinhole in the radiator and replaced that. We have filled it back up and added coolant. We bled the system. I can't think of anything else to do.

I don't know what brand, but it came from Autozone. My dad says he thinks it's 190. Also we have changed the heater core, and still the same thing.

Well all I can say is my cousin bought a themostat from autozone for his vette and after he installed it, It kept running hot and never worked correctly. I bought a Hypertech 160 and it fixed the whole problem. I have heard others having problems with Autozone themostats as well. I would buy a better brand thermostat. Also factory setting is 180 degrees

I think it would be better to find the culprate of the problem instead of just covering it up by making the fans turn on faster. I really think she need to put in a Factory 180 thermostat. I have a brand new one sitting here on the shelf if you want it wildfire. Just let me know.

How much do you want for it? I sure need something. My dad lives an hour away so it's hard for him to drive down and work on it all the time. But if you think it will help, I will try anything at this point. Thanks, Wild

Also check for a clogged cat, that causes the LT1's to heat up as well.

Strange?

Also we got a themometer from a friend. I guess it's one they use on the big trucks, I'm not sure. Anyway, we put it in the the radiator where the cap comes off and it was reading 194 and the temperature gauge was reading 130? But I was told that the thermostat is not opening up at the right temperature. I don't know but I do know one thing once I get it fixed I'll never forget what it was just in case it ever happens again. LOL!

Thanks guys for all your help, it mean a lot!

Your problem is probably the incorrect thermostat. LT-1's require the reverse flow type thermo. Autozone will give you the wrong one! I recommend going with either a stock thermo or go to a hypertech 160. A normal thermo will not work correctly!
