Re: The 93 is running.....finally

What do you think is up with the IAC count Should I call Alvin and tell him what it's doing? I was was reading in another thread about drilling out the hole that goes to the IAC so it can get more air. Is this a good idea and/or safe?

Re: The 93 is running.....finally

I had to modify my aftermarket 58mm throttle body when i got it so the IAC would work properly. If you still have the stock throttle body I would think you would not have to modify it at all. Have you tried adjusting the throttle stop screw? If so how much? I had to play with mine quite a bit to get the IAC and Idle where i wanted them. I played with the screw and TPS sensor and watched my idle rpm to get everything lined out.

Re: The 93 is running.....finally

I have adjusted the set screw several times, but when i idle the car down in park, say 800 rpm or so, when i put it in gear, it idles up really high 1300 or so and you have hear the IAC sucking air. I have not adjusted the TPS after I did this, I never thought about it but it makes sense. Somone in this thread said the IAC count should be 45, I could only get it to 6 in park, when i put it in gear it goes up. What's the best way to set this or is it part of the tune?
When I idled it up in park to about 1000 when i put it in gear it didn't idle up as high, I asuming because the throttle blades are open more and the IAC doesn't have to compensate. I'm very frustrated with the thing right now, I want to get it back to Flyboy so he can enjoy his car, he has been more than patient.

Also, what would cause the convertor to stay locked up all the time? Bad TCC solenoid? I thought it got power from the A terminal on the plug in that goes to the tranny. I also need to find out why the speedo doesn't work.

Arrghh.

Re: The 93 is running.....finally

I was always told to start the car and take an IAC count reading. Then make an adjustment. Then turn the car off, then back on and take another reading. Whether this is right or wrong i'm not real sure, but it has worked for me.

If you got your IAC count down to 6 your need to close the throttle blades not open them more. The more you open them, the lower the count will go, but it will also potentially raise the idle rpm slightly. You have to find that happy medium. If you can here sucking really loud, more then likely you have the blades to far open.

I talked to Alvin tonight at pcmsforless, and he feels my problems are from a bad chip, speedo doesn't work, high idle and so on. He is going to send me a new chip in the morning, I hope this fixes it, thanks alvin.

Re: The 93 is running.....finally

Well the tune finally showed up today in the mail. I put it in, the speed works, the convertors locks up, well it did once anyway, i don't think thats the tunes fault, it idles better and it picked up about 100hp. The car runs really good now. Besides a few small tranny issues, I'm really happy with it. Now the car needs the Nitto's. Pulls really good, especially through a stock catback and flow muff.

there's one problem I am having. At 4grand in 2nd gear at WOT, it looses oil pressure, well atleast the gauge says it does. It doesn't make any noise, and if you stay in it for a few seconds, it will drop to zero, the check gauge light will come one, it will stay at zero, then go back up to 60psi. It doesn't do it in 1st or 3rd gear, I checked before I got home tonight. I thought "maybe" the high volume pump was sucking the pan dry, mellings website that's not possible. I added an extra quart of oil to make sure, still does it. The pressure doesn't start to drop till 4grand. could it by the bypass valve in the filter housing, or the filter? I am going to put a mechanical gauge on it tomorrow.

Also, it has a slight miss to it in OD, I looked at the plugs at night and you can see the m arching around the plug boot on the plug. I guess it's from the oil that got on them from adjusting valves. I am going to try and clean them with some carb cleaner tomorrow.

I guess the oil pressure is the main thing. It noticed it right before I parked it to take the tune out of it, then tonight it did it. Any idea's? I'm not going to drive it hard until I figure it out.

Alvin, thanks for sending the new tune, it took care of it.

Re: The 93 is running.....finally

Well, I worked on the car a lot this weekend so Flyboy could take it back to school with him. I replace the TCC solenoid, it was bad, it locks up like it's supposed to now. I put a stock oil pump in it, took care of the dropping oil pressure problem, it was sucking the pan dry. He put his new rims and tires on it, polished ZR1's with 315's nittos on back, it has the sportline kit on it, car looks really good. Really the only thing left to to is put the cut out on it and fine tune the tranny. He will probably have it dyno'd around thanksgiving or sooner if alvin comes into town for a dyno day.

Hell yes...I'll give you a ring when I'm going back to E'ville. The TA has not been run in the 1/4 with the spray. It ran 13.3 @ 107mph with only and air lid and 3500 miles.

Take care buddy and good luck with the new found power...
