What affect will a bad catalytic converter have on my car?

depending on how bad the cat is, it could range from a hesistation to almost not driveable

It will run but there is no power and it sounds really quiet. Cannot go any faster the 15 mph and there are no codes

I just got my cat fixed. It feels a lot more powerful. And sounds a lot louder. My car did hesitate and was very quiet. I was told before I fixed it that I had the quietest lt1 people have ever heard. The cat really fixed those problems.

I didn't know having a bad catalytic (or cadillac converter as the hicks around here say) could mess your car up so bad. What all does it do exactly, mine is gutted and I haven't had any problems.

A bad catalytic usually has a funky smell, but other than that I don't know

Can you feel any pressure at the exhuast tips ? If the convertor is clogged, low exhaust pressure will be an indication. You could also disconnect the intermediary pipe and visually inspect the convertor core.

If your converter is bad enough to be costing you that much power. Let the engine warm up and drive it a bit. Look under the car, chances are the converter will be glowing cherry red hot. After you diagnose it, DON"T DRIVE IT!! You could hurt your engine big time.

i had a clogged converter on my 93. it was clogged so bad that the honeycomb material was working its way back up the air pump into my cylinders.(found metal shavings on spark plugs as well as shook it out of my air tube) i gained a best of .3 and 5miles with my k&n intake and gutted cat. i hesitated really bad under load and heard a ticking sound from the motor. i thought it was knocking but i found out it was the cat filling backing up. gut it put a straight pipe. some say to unbolt it and bust out all the honeycomb but i belive 93's cats are welded onto the y pipe. gl
