8th spark plug removed in 8 minutes flat!!!!!

I have did it!!! It's not an invention but it should be. For fun, we'll call it "The 8th Wonder! I decided to save $280.00 and change my plugs and decided to be a true soldier and tackle the passenger side first. Well this is what you do about that last spark plug on the passenger side. If you have the Hanes book for the 93 camaro...look at the angled ratchet that is in the picture shown for removing the spark plugs. I purchased on as a package and it came with a 5/8" plug socket (useless for this plug at least for me). Instead I used a deep 5/8" socket and a 3/8"-1/2" adapter. The end of the ratchet can be unscrewed with an allen key (sorry I don't know the size, I just kept feeling it out until one fit), anyway unscrew the ratchet head off and reverse it and screw it back on. Now here is where it gets tricky. I got the end of a METAL hollow broom handle and cut the end off (it was actually already broken and I was using it as a cheater bar) Cut it to aproximatey 17" and it doesn't have to be exact, I wasn't really thinking about this, it just came out that way and worked. Put your ratchet handle in the open end of the broom handle...it will only go down to where the the angle starts and this is fine. Duct tape the ratchet handle inside of the broom handle. It doesn't have to be really tight, you just don't want it to be turning around to much and not fall out. One thing that would help is to put some duct tape around the broom handle and on the exposed portion of the ratchet to cut down on the clanging under the car. I realized this after and I wasn't about to remove it from the plug just for that. You will need to jack the car up and go under head first from the front of the car with your legs under the nose of the car. Once you have reached up and pushed of the boot...which I did with a really long extension,(start your timer) you will need to reach up
behind the exhaust where you will have enough clearance to move this to ratchet off the plug. Because the end of the ratchet pivots (remember we reversed it) I turned it up a bit so as I pushed my new tool up the compartment side, I was able to slip it right on the plug. Once this happens, it did take bit to angle it just right to make sure that it was secure. Start ratcheting! The biggest challenge was that my arm got a little tired because of the continuous ratcheting, but who cares...it took me 7 innings of a Giants game to get just the first one on the passenger side off so I'm happy as a clam! Anyone feel free to ask any questions, I'm not the best mechanic and I tried to take good pics but I will gladly take more. I'm using photo bucket and I don't know if this is going to work so if it doesn't maybe someone has another suggestion on how to get you guys pics of my frankenstein.

I used a 11" flex head ratchet with a 2 inch extension to break the plug loose, then, disengage the ratchet,an unscrew the plug by hand.I also put a little vasoline on my arm, tight fit.First I touchy feely to put the plug socket on first, and putting the new plug in.(Make sure the engine is cold).
Napa auto parts #775-1482 3/8 drive flex head ratchet.(you will absolutly love the 2" extensions.My02.(2 to 3 minutes).Oh,the vasoline does take some paint off the fender well.)Hope this helps.Call me crazy,I also clean up the spark plug hole a little as well with a couple of paper towels.Myo2.

I find the #8 plug a sinch to get out (with headers), its stareing right at you, or you can go in from the bottom, unless i'm missing something, now #2 plug is a bitch, maybe #4 alittle hard too.

I've also heard that this entire job is a lot easier with headers. This really applies to stock exhaust. I find it amazing that some people can get their arms all the way up there. My hands are big and my forearms are not the smallest so I had to get creative.

I commissioned my brother to do the plugs the last time, since he has
thinner arms/hands. Now that the headers are on, access to the plugs
is a breeze!

I'm just going to wait to change the plugs until I get headers. I figure the easiest possible way is to do it when there's no exhaust in there at all!

I agree with this #2 is always the harder one for me in the past. I usually have to go blind with it.

It won't work that way, you'll need to install the plugs after you put the headers in, now i'm sure you can pull the plugs after you take the mannys off, i didn't, just pulled them out, but i agree, there a "bitch"

I can do the whole set of plugs in under 2 hours. That's with removing the alternator.
