7k to spend on mods help me out

My freind has 97 Auto LT1 with Borla catback, cai, 3.73's, yank 3500 and 12 bolt. He's got 7k to spend on modding his engine. Anyone got any good ideas on what to buy he wants max power I think he wants to go FI. I had this idea Forge the bottom end with low cr pistons maybe 383 crank, cam it, headers into offroad y, maf, tb, fuel, and put on a Stage ll Intercooled ATI Procharger D-1SC 12-20#boost with Twin highflow intercooler from TBYRNE. What do you guys think of my idea? What kind of power would that put out on stock heads and intake?

I think it would be a waste to put that kinda money in the engine and leave the heads stock........... Spend a grand or 2 of that 7K on the heads.......You can gain as much as 50-100 HP depending on what heads you go with even on a stock bottom end (at least that is my understanding). Adding the SC is obvious power but to push that through stock flowing heads would not make any sense to me..

Just my 2 cents

But I know one thing. I wish I had your friends 7K right now....... I would have a nice 383 stroker motor from CMotorsports

Take the engine to biscoffs in West Harrison, IN. This is just a little west of cincinnati. You can get a really nice forged bottom end 383 for fairly cheap (3k). Send the heads to phil/lloyd/lt1dave(2k). Then boost the hell out of it (2k used blower).

you arent gonna build a FI application for 7k, especially with his current mods. What about the fuel system? Driveshaft? Tranny?

I would say he should look at getting a nice set of ported heads, a bigger cam, nitrous, suspension and a sticky tire. If he wants to go FI he will spend well over 7K.

20# of boost

holy OMFG! I wouldn't want a daily driven blown 383 with 10#'s.

Blowers are headaches and I want NOTHING to do with them from a daily driving point of view.

ah im a m6 guy, i tend to forget about a4 issues with high power, stalls etc. So yes the tranny will for sure need a once over by a good shop (see sig, lol).

Driveshaft will be fine. Fuel system you can go fairly cheap on. 255 intank (100), 54lb injectors (i think thats the biggest you can go high independence (400)), FPR (100)and your set for moderate boost levels. I would think 10-12psi max.

I really don't understand why ATI advertises 12-20lbs of boost out of a D1SC. To get that much boost out of a D1SC you will have to run a cog belt setup and also you will have to do something about replacing the orange flex hose with a solid inlet pipe. Plus I do not believe the twin intercooler setup with be efficient at higher boost levels. Depending on what you goals are the twin intercooler setup is suppose to support 700hp according to ATI.

The FI was just an idea that's what I'm looking for more ideas, also he has 7k to put in the motor the tranny covered.

I think he's going to go NA now. How much power could that crate motor put out with a mild to big cam?

depends, whats your idea of a big to mild cam.

get their stage 3 heads and quiet a bit i'm sure. It doesn't really matter if he wants to go NA or FI. He doesn't have a choice, not with $7000. Hes got to be looking $10-12k min for a forced induction application done right. I think rich said his fuel system cost more than his bottom end
