Is 7 quart oil pan needed for 383?

Friend is building 383 motor and I was wondering if the 7 quart oil pan is something that is needed.....i mean i have seen post about 383's having problems with this so some of ya'll please help out....

I currently am running a blown 383 with a stock oil pan. So to answer your question, no.

Not gonna hurt though...more importantly...what oil pump is being used.
