7/16"-20 hardened nut needed or not?

I'm trying to re-install my crank hub and I wanted to know exactly HOW neccessary the 7/16"-20 hardened nut was when using the homemade tool to install the hub. I can't get one locally, so I would have to order one. Can I just use some regular nut, or is that the dumbest mistake to make when putting the hub back on?? I have a grade 8 strength threaded rod, a piece of pvc pipe, and some washers to make my hub install tool, but I'm just missing the nut. Please chime in if you have used a crappy home depot nut to install your hub. thanks a lot!

Give the lower grade a try......if it strips out you know youll need the grade 8. Might want to get 2 or 3 of them.

Hmmm. Any local Hardware store should carry one (I know mine does). Most of them carry Grade 2 all the way to Grade 8. Just get the hardest grade you can.
