6speed conversion question

I wont be doing the swap for some time due to money, but still curious, do I have to get a m28/m29 trans or will a 6speed from any year lt1 work?

A transmission from any year LT1 will work. The 93's are pretty rare, Ive been looking for one for a while now but havent found but a couple that were for sale. The 94-97 transmission will work just as well, they just have different gearing. Good luck.

Quick question-
I've also been thinking of doing the same swap myself, but I haven't been able to get even an estimate from most of the tranny shops around here. So, about how much would a swap like this cost (including the cost of the new tranny, labor, clutch pedal install, PCM reprogramming, etc.)? Also, I assume this is something that is best left to a professional, right? Thanks for your help!
