6spd guys... i have a few questions concerning your oil pressure.
148,000 miles here...
Pennzoil 5w30 every 5,000 miles
3.42 rear in 6th gear
65 mph is 1500 rpm
70 mph is 1700 rpm
80 mph is 2000 rpm
Oil pressure at idle is 20 to 25
70 mph pressure is 40 to 45

35000KM
mobil 1 10w30 just started that, before was 5w30
oil pressure at idle is maybe 6psi
cruising speed maybe 20 psi
I've been told to drop the oil pan because the bearing clearances are f------. I'm going to keep driving it then I'm going to sue GM

Never checked oil pressure until after my 97SS spun bearings (or something) at 8K. Always used synthetic oil, oil cooler, never abused.
Have 200 miles on new shortblock. Check oil pressure all the time now. Runs around 40-60, but I haven't reved over 3K while breaking in new motor.
Rarely used 6th gear before.
Now I have 4.10s so I probably will use it more often after breakin.

Personally, I think your friend has no idea what he is talking about. My car has 101,xxx miles on it, and many of those are highway miles (I used to drive at least 80% of my miles on the highway). Oil pressure in 6th gear at 1300-1400 RPMS (55 mph, 3.42 rear end) is about 35 to 40 psi. And I like to shift my car into 6th gear at about 50 mph. I have no problems with my car, aside from the fuel pump is dying. I also manage to get about 28-30 mpg on the highway, usually about 20 in the city, when I'm shifting as soon as possible to save gas (I'm usually in 5th gear by 35 mph). I use valvoline full synthetic 10W30 with the extra capacity oil filters (usually AC Delco).
152000 miles
idle----25psi
6th gear at 70mph 1925 rpms (datamaster)----48
1300rpms----40 psi
i do have 4.10s the reason my rpms are up. but at wot i run about 65 psi at 5500 rpms
i didnt like luggng the engine either thats one reason for the 4.10s.
all this is also at 180 degrees. when the car reaches 200 degrees it drops 4-5 psi

I hope shoebox will check into this thread I'd kinda like to know what he has to say on it...I know what I think and that is using 6th gear above 55 or so mph shouldn't be a problem as long as your not trying to rapidly accelerate (not going to happen in 6th anyways) I don't see a problem. I turn 1400rpm at 60mph and 2000rpm at about 87 or so mph. Stock 3.42 rear end. I don't use sixth unless I'm above 50 mph, but driving on the highway turning 1400 is by not lugging the motor in my opinion. It's an OD gear and thats what it's used for. I would rather turn 1500 or 1600 rpm than 2500 or 3000rpm on the highway anyday of the week.
generally my car will lug if I'm in 6th under about 58MPH (was 60MPH before the headers). I won't put my car into 6th unless I'm going above 62 or so however. I don't know about you guys, but I can pass people just fine in 6th

this is good stuff guys keep it up! but please KEEP YOUR OPINIONS TO YOURSELF... what i am talking about are the comments saying my friend if full of ****.. thats not very mature. just fill out the simple 3 questions and maybe add some of your personal experiences like have been done but no bashing please. personally i believe anything under 1500 rpm in 6th gear isnt too great on the bearings judging by the way the car struggles to pick up speed... 2000 rpm is a little different.

I believe 6th OD is OK if you are on level ground and no traffic. If you are pulling hills all the time you are probably lugging (which I doubt is providing efficient fuel consumption.
If the traffic is heavy, esp. with 18 wheelers, passing in an emergency can be perilous, even if you are forced to shift down.JMHO
