54mm throttle body

Anyone have any experience with the throttle bodies on ebay? I know some of you say a bigger throttle body isn't needed on a stock motor, but you can keep that opinion to yourself. Anyway, are they any good or are they junk, I guess the 52mm ones on there qualify for this too. Should I save the money or go with a name brand one?

If only half my opinion is worthwhile why bother sharing it? If you don't want to learn from us this site is of no value to you.

I gained nearly 10 rwhp going from a 48 to 52 BBK on a cam only car. I only lost 1 ft lb of torque. I would suggest looking for a good used name brand one.

Cool Re: 54mm throttle body

Yeah I have a stock 96 ss camaro and I got a 58 mm throttle body. Yes I know this is a really big throttle body for a stock engine but i noticed a difference in throttle response and horse. Now if you get a 58 mm it should be good for up to 600 horse and flows 1,000 cubic feet per minute. That way with the 58mm you dont have to upgrade later if you decide you want more horsepower. Now if you are worried about porting your current intake to match a 58mm I wouldnt. Edelbrock is cooming out with an intake manifold on april 17th and I am sure it will match a 58mm throttle body. Now I bought my Edelbrock 58mm throttle body on ebay and it was a good deal. Just make sure you find a good seller with good feedback.

Its not an opinion, its a FACT, so i am stating it . A your stock throttle body is perfect for your stock/ slightly moded engine. If you are running a cam and heads where more air is needed, then the application would be justified. Why spend money on that if you can spend it elsewhere making the vehicle faster? If you want some ideas good alternatives, any of us will be happy to help!

Re: 54mm throttle body

I read a magazine article about a bolt on test on a 1997 Camaro, and they picked up like 17 to the wheels with the 52mm throttle body after doing the exhaust and slp cold air setup. Afterwards they tuned it with an air fuel ratio monitor and picked up another 15. I guess that's bull**** too huh?

To answer your question about ebay, I would only get it from one person, and he is a member here. So if the one on ebay is from MJB Machine or something similar to that, then you are cool. I wouldn't trust too many others unless I knew more about them...

If you want to take everything you read in a magazine article as gospel, that's up to you. I don't. Magazine articles overstating the benefits of their advertisers' products is not unheard of.

Definitely take that with a grain. Your best bet, not being an *** here, is to do some searches and read up on this. It's been covered many times.

Re: 54mm throttle body

dude its your car do and spend the money on what you want i have a Holley 58mm i just got. AWESOME quality and i love how its polished, thats the only thing i hated bout my BBK 52mm was it looked so plain and ugly. get the 58mm if you have the cash and get it over with,54mm isn't enough of a change from a 52 to waste the money... i pulled my intake off and ported for the 58mm,not hard at all to do.

Re: 54mm throttle body

A stock TB ported to 54mm is going to be porous. I wouldnt want to run one on my car. A ASM 54 mm would be fine. Dont forget that a 58mm requires porting the intake.

I ran a stock ported 52mm by NOMAD (board member) and it ran really well when i still had the lt1 intake.

Re: 54mm throttle body

Rockers and springs will stretch that budget a bit but are a good mod. Just keep any future cam plans in mind when considering rocker ratio.
